Eddie Motorsports 8-Rib S-Drive Belt Systems Can Handle Big Power
If you need a serpentine drive system for your serious street engine, count the ribs on the drive belt. The standard setup is a six-rib belt with matching pulleys, and it’s excellent for stock or mildly built engines. But go big with the cubic inches or a power adder and a six-rib system will experience belt slippage and stretch, neither of which is desirable.
That’s why engines making big power should go with an eight-rib serpentine drive system like one of Eddie Motorsports S-Drive systems. The eight-rib belt has a 33% wider contact patch than a six-rib belt. That improves belt traction and reduces belt slippage and stretch in higher horsepower applications. The wider belt can also handle 33% more horsepower and torque, which will dramatically reduce belt whip and belt wave.
Available for small block Chevy, big block Chevy, and GM LS engines, Eddie Motorsports’ S-Drive systems come with CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum pulleys and brackets; a water pump; Powermaster alternator; and a Gates spring-loaded belt tensioner. Systems are available with or without a GM Type 2 power steering pump and a Sanden-style A/C compressor.
Eddie Motorsports is thoughtful enough to package each bracket with its stainless steel fasteners so you don’t have to root through a box of bolts to find the correct ones.
Eddie Motorsports S-Drive systems with an eight-rib belt are available with a variety of pulley and bracket finishes:
• Black or matte black powdercoated
• Black anodized
• Clear powdercoated or clear anodized
• Machined
• Polished
You can also get a Raven Series serpentine drive system with all-black components in powdercoat or anodized finishes.
This Eddie Motorsports video gets into more detail on the S-Drive systems.
