Edelbrock VRS-4150 Carburetors: Pro-Level Tuning Features in an Off-the-Shelf Carburetor
Yes, it’s the 21st century, And yes, people are happily running carburetors on their street and race engines. For them, Edelbrock makes the VRS-4150 Race and Performance Carburetor. It offers tons of tuning features that used to be found only on pro-level race carbs.
The VR-4150 carburetor is available in 650, 750, 850, and 950 cfm versions for use with gasoline. There’s also a 950 cfm version for use with E85. It has custom metering blocks and larger jets that increase fuel capacity by 30%.
Unlike traditional 4150 carburetors that have just an idle feed and main feed circuit, Edelbrock gave the VRS-410 four metering circuits per venturi with externally-accessible screw-in air bleeds. They allow very precise fuel curve tuning previously available only with professionally-modified carburetors.
The Edelbrock VRS-4150 has idle bypass adjustment screws located on both sides of the main body. These adjustment screws let you set curb idle speed instead of using the throttle stop on the linkage. This is ideal for competition and hot street engines with long-duration camshafts and very low idle vacuum numbers.
Another nice feature is the provision for a GM three-wire throttle position sensor (TPS) on the passenger side of the throttle body. The sensor can be used for data logging or providing a TPS signal for electronic automatic transmissions like GM’s 4L60E and 4L80E.
Other features include:
• One-piece main body/throttle plate
• Main body is half-inch taller than typical 4150 main body to stabilize fuel delivery
• Throttle body flange drilled for 4150 and Dominator bolt patterns
• Annular discharge boosters for 850 and 950 cfm carburetors, down-leg boosters for 650 and 750 cfm versions
• Dual 50cc accelerator pump circuits
• Billet primary and secondary metering blocks with power valves to optimize jetting
• 20% larger fuel bowls with internal ribs and baffles to reduce slosh and aeration
• Dual -6 AN fuel bowl inlets allow flexible fuel line routing
• Secondary fuel bowl jet extenders keep the jets covered in fuel under hard acceleration
• Nitrophyl floats with corner cuts to prevent fuel flow shutoff during hard cornering
• Borosilicate sight glass windows on each side of the fuel bowls to set float level
• Two additional links to adjust mechanical secondary opening rate
• Vacuum ports for PCV, power brake, vacuum advance, and transmission modulator
• Uses standard 4150 replacement and tuning parts like main jets, bleeds, and power valves
It’s important to remember that more isn’t always better when it comes to carburetors. Always double check the math to make sure your engine actually needs 950 CFM. This CFM Calculator will help you figure out what size carburetor what you need.
