Flat Tow Your Vehicle Safely with Blue Ox Tow Bars and Accessories

Flat-towing a vehicle with chains, rope, or other home-brewed methods isn’t safe, nor is it legal. Fortunately, Blue Ox makes tow bars, baseplates, electric brake controllers, and other products to make flat-towing safe and no-hassle. The peace of mind will be well worth the price.

Tow Bars
Blue Ox offers several different tow bar options to fit your specific needs. The Ascent, Alpha 2, and Avail Tow Bars have off-set triple lugs and non-binding latches to make unhooking easier on uneven terrain. They are self-aligning and don’t have a centering pin for easy stowing and storing. All Blue Ox tow bars come with safety cables and are backed by a three-year limited warranty.

The Acclaim Tow Bar is a Class III steel bar rated for towing up to 5,000 pounds. It has a ball coupler, easy-release latches, and is designed for use with baseplates that have tab widths between 23 and 30 inches.

The Ascent Tow Bar is a Class III bar rated for towing up to 7,500 pounds. Made from aircraft aluminum weighing just 31 pounds, the bar is self-aligning allowing for quick and easy hookup. It has non-binding latches and fits two-inch receivers.

The Alpha 2 Tow Bar is a Class III steel bar rated for towing up to 6,500 pounds. Designed for use with baseplates that have a maximum tab width of 32 inches, the bar has a three-axis swivel design and auto-locking arms. It fits two-inch receivers.

The Avail Tow Bar is a Class IV steel bar rated for towing up to 10,000 pounds. It will work with narrow- or wide-width vehicles and is available for two-inch and 2.5-inch receivers.

Tow Bar Baseplates
You’re going to need to install a tow bar baseplate on your vehicle for flat-towing. Blue Ox tow bar baseplates are vehicle-specific and provide the proper attachment points for your tow bar. The steel baseplates bolt directly to the vehicle chassis and are hidden beneath the body. Most Blue Ox baseplates feature removable tabs for a clean look when the vehicle is not being towed. Summit Racing carries Blue Ox baseplates for over 600 applications.

Patriot Flat Tow Brake Kits
Flat-tow brakes are required in 49 U.S. states and in Canada. The Patriot Flat Tow Brake Kit makes flat-towing easier and safer. The unit mounts on the floor of the towed vehicle in front of the brake pedal and is powered by a 12 volt power source in the vehicle. A claw on an extendable actuator arm attaches to the brake pedal. It provides braking action with the same force as a foot on the middle of the brake pedal, at the same angle, for true reactive braking.

The brake unit wirelessly connects to an on-dash control unit mounted in the tow vehicle. It allows you to adjust the braking force, override automatic braking, and monitor brake function. These instructions show you how the Patriot kit installs and functions.

Other features include:
• Continuously monitors brake pressure during towing
• Automatically checks brake pressure during setup
• Breakaway switch that mounts on the front of the towed vehicle
• Breakaway, visual, and audio alerts
• Super capacitor lifetime battery

Summit Racing also carries these Blue Ox towing products:

• Fifth-wheel hitches
