FST Performance RT Plus and RT-X Carburetors: Street Carburetion in Two Great Flavors
For all the hoopla about electronic fuel injection, carburetors are still a popular way to feed air and fuel to an engine. They’re reliable, affordable, make good power, and can be tuned with a screwdriver and a little common sense.
FST Performance RT Plus and RT-X Carburetors are a great example of modern carburetion. Both feature two-circuit metering blocks and a four-corner idle system for easy fine-tuning and better fuel distribution. They also have downleg-style venturi boosters that improve low-end and midrange performance and driveability—exactly what street engines need.
Another nice feature is the built-in bracket for a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), which is required when using an electronically-controlled overdrive automatic transmission or a data logger designed to use a TPS signal. Other features include 30cc accelerator pumps, fuel bowls with center-hung floats, and dual-feed fuel inlets.
The difference between the RT Plus and X-Series carburetors is how the aluminum main body, baseplate, and metering blocks are made:
• RT Plus carbs have pressure-forged components that are stronger, denser, and more dimensionally accurate than traditional die-cast pieces. That means less metal porosity and better sealing
• RT-X carburetors also have a pressure-forged main body, but FST upgrades them with red anodized billet aluminum metering blocks and a black anodized baseplate
FST Performance RT Plus Carburetors are available in 600 CFM versions with vacuum or mechanical secondaries, or 750 CFM with mechanical secondaries. The RT-X carburetors are available in 600 and 750 CFM versions with your choice of vacuum or mechanical secondaries. You can get a 750 CFM carb without a choke if cold-weather starting is not a concern.
