Get Better Throttle Response, More Revs, and Smoother Shifting with an Action Clutch Kit

Whether your import performance car has a couple of bolt-ons or is a full-boogie race machine, Action Clutch has a clutch kit or flywheel to handle it. Action Clutch hand-builds everything in the USA with American-made materials so quality and durability are top-notch. Let’s take a look as what’s available.

Stage 2 Clutch Kits
Designed for high-performance street and occasional track use, Action Clutch Stage 2 Clutch Kits offer 110 percent more holding capacity than a factory clutch. That makes them ideal for vehicles that have basic bolt-ons, cam swaps, and very low-boost turbo or nitrous setups.

The diaphragm-style clutches have a heavy-duty pressure plate and a full or segmented clutch disc with Kevlar® friction material backed by a reinforced steel backing plate. Kevlar has a low static-to-dynamic friction coefficient for smooth engagement, better heat dissipation, and long life with a slightly heavier pedal feel than stock.

Other features include:
• Sprung hub for easy engagement
• Spring retainers prevent spring displacement to protect the engine and transmission from damage
• Four-stage, heat-treated diaphragm spring
• Reinforced heavy-duty drive straps
• Dynamically spin-balanced for smooth operation at all RPMs
• Release bearing, pilot bearing/bushing (when applicable), and alignment tool included

Action Clutch recommends a 1,000-mile break-in period for long life and consistent holding capacity. Keep the RPMs under 4,500, use no more than half-throttle, and try to stay off the boost.

Action Clutch Stage 2 Clutch Kits are available for many popular Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota cars from the 1970s through today. They are not recommended for drag racing or drifting.

Twin-Disc Race Clutch Kits
Action Clutch Twin-Disc Race Clutch Kits are for serious race vehicles running naturally aspirated, with forced induction, or even on nitro. The diaphragm-style clutches are rated to handle up to 800 lbs.-ft. of torque, so you can throw some power at them.

The Twin-Disc Clutch Kits feature two .250-inch thick sintered metallic clutch discs with a ventilated billet aluminum clutch cover to handle the elevated temperatures found in a racing environment. Clutch engagement is smooth and pedal pressure is aggressive but not overly so. Less rotational mass helps improve throttle response to get you off the starting line as fast as possible. The kits require a clutch pedal stop because clutch travel is much shorter than a single-disc clutch.

Other features include:
• Lightweight chromoly steel flywheel
• High-strength steel alloy pressure and floater plates
• Minimal deflection when quick shifting
• Modified premium Japanese release bearing, pilot bearing/bushing (when applicable), and alignment tool included

Action Clutch Twin-Disc Race Clutch Kits do not have a sprung disc design, so using one on the street or in a constant on/off engagement environment will result in premature failure. They’re available for Honda/Acura, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Nissan performance cars.

Chromoly Lightweight Flywheels
Action Clutch Chromoly Lightweight Flywheels are made from one-piece billet chromoly steel or chromoly steel forgings. They offer a balance of low weight, low inertia, and high thermal capacity for excellent throttle response for cars from street to drag race, drift, autocross, , and rally use. Since the flywheels have less rotational mass, you’ll notice a bit more noise, vibration and harshness, but that’s a small price to pay for improved performance.

The flywheels are tested at speeds up to 15,000-18,000 RPM—way higher than you’ll ever run. They’re heat treated for extreme durability and can be resurfaced multiple times. That saves you money. The flywheels are SFI 1.1-certified.

Summit Racing also carries these Action Clutch products:
• Stage 1 and 3 single-disc clutch kits
• Iron Man clutch kits
• OEM replacement-style and lightweight aluminum flywheels
