Get Insight into the Health of Your Engine with a SPEEDiagnostix Used Oil Analysis Kit
OK, pop quiz hot shots—what’s the quickest way to learn the real condition of the internal components in your engine, transmission, or axles? If your answer includes disassembling parts, you’re wrong. If you said checking the oil, you’re getting warmer. However, if you answered sending a UOA (used oil analysis) to SPEEDiagnostix for a thorough review in a laboratory then—ding-ding-ding—you’re the smartest so-and-so of the day.
If you never heard of a UOA until now, you’re not alone. While this service has been a mainstay of racing teams and fleet equipment services for many years, it’s only recently been adopted by the general auto enthusiast community.
By examining a small sample of the oil and/or lubricant inside of a piece of mechanical equipment, a SPEEDiagnostix UOA can identify little problems before they manifest into big, expensive-to-fix problems. For instance, if you want to know if the rod or main bearings in your engine are in good shape, get a UOA. Are the fuel injectors leaking causing the oil to become diluted with fuel? Is there too much sodium in your engine due to excessive winter road salt getting past the air filter? Just how many miles can you really drive between oil changes before the oil’s additive package is all used up? All of these potentially catastrophic problems—plus many more—can be identified by SPEEDiagnostix.
Summit Racing carries these by SPEEDiagnostix kits. They include all laboratory testing and reporting plus shipping to and from the lab:
Standard Turnaround Used Oil Analysis Kits
These kits provide full results in 5-6 business days. The tests performed with this kit include:
- FTIR Spectroscopy—an advanced infrared method that determines oil health plus contamination problems and levels
- RDE Elemental Spectroscopy—analyzes particles in oil to determine the wear metal levels and additive concentrations
- Kinematic Viscosity—determines the viscosity grade of the oil sample as well as the health of the oil
These all-inclusive kits come with additional materials to collect and ship your oil sample such as an I.D. carton and sample bottle, nitrile (non-latex) gloves, and an instruction form. You’ll get results in just 3-4 business days—perfect for busy automotive repair shops or vehicle owners in a hurry. In addition to the FTIR Spectroscopy and Kinematic Viscosity analysis performed in the standard kits, the Expedited Kits also include these tests:
- Spectrometal Analysis—determines type and quantity (in ppm) of wear, contaminants, and additive metals in the oil
- Viscosity Analysis—indicates improper oil, oil oxidation, or contamination with other fluids
The 3-day, 3-pack kits are identical to the other Expedited kit option, but comes with three prepaid shipping sample bottles. This lowers the overall cost by combining multiple samples into one shipment, giving car or shop owners the same vital information for three different vehicles or even three separate mechanical components such as the engine, transmission, and rear axle.
