Get Six Speeds and More Positive Gear Changes with a Tremec T-56 Magnum XL Transmission
How do you make a transmission as good as Tremec’s T-56 Magnum XL six-speed even better? You give it an extended length rear extension housing that replaces the vague, ‘semi-remote’ shifter found in later model Mustangs, Camaros, and other cars with a rigid shifter mount. That means crisp, positive gear changes instead of the clumsy, rubbery action of the factory shifter.
The design can also help position the shifter where it’s more comfortable to use when swapped into classic muscle cars, trucks, and other older vehicles.
The Magnum XL is rated at 700 lbs.-ft. of torque capacity and can handle 8,000 RPM shifts right out of the box. Other features include:
• Triple cone synchronizers on gears 1-4, double cone synchronizers on gears 5-6 and reverse
• 26-spline input shaft and 31-spline output shaft
• Single-rail shift mechanism
• Electronic speedometer output
• Shifter included
The Tremec T-56 Magnum XL six-speed transmission requires the use of a hydraulic clutch release bearing. It’s available in universal-fit versions and in kits for 2005-2016 Mustang that include an SFI-rated steel bellhousing with block plate, OEM-style transmission mount, crossmember, and shifter knob. Both are available with these gear sets:
First Gear Second Gear Third Gear Fourth Gear Fifth Gear Sixth Gear

2.97 2.10 1.46 1.00 0.80 0.63
