GO Lithium Gen 2 Batteries: Reliable Voltage with Less Weight
Reducing weight is almost as important as more horsepower when it comes to building a winning race car. Replacing the heavy lead-acid or AGM battery with a GO Lithium GEN 2 battery can shave 20 to 30 pounds from your car while providing faster cranking speeds, ultra-hot ignition spark, and higher sustained voltage.
GO Lithium GEN 2 batteries use lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cells with a prismatic design—each cell has its chemistry enclosed in a rigid, rectangular casing. This design is compact, durable, and energy-dense. That means a GO Lithium battery crams a lot of power in a small, lightweight package. The 16-volt battery is rated at 1,250 cold cranking amps and weighs just nine pounds, and the 12-volt battery is rated at 850 cold cranking amps and weighs seven pounds.
GO Lithium GEN 2 batteries are internally balanced to ensure they discharge and charge their cells equally. That dramatically increases battery life. GOLithium says most racers can expect their GEN 2 battery to last approximately 10 years with a 50% average discharge/charge cycle.
GO Lithium Gen 2 batteries are safe under racing conditions, too. To prove it, the company performed a puncture test by driving a steel rod through one of the lithium cells used in its batteries. It passed the test without exploding or catching fire, which can be an issue with other types of lithium battery cells.
The GO Lithium GEN 2 batteries are available individually. The 16-volt battery is also available in kits that include a charger and single or dual batteries. Summit Racing also carries GO Lithium 12- and 16-volt chargers, aluminum battery boxes, and billet aluminum mounts for the 16-volt battery. All GO Lithium batteries come with one-year replacement and three-year prorated warranties.
