Hamilton Cams Diesel Cams and Valvetrain Components Now Available at Summit Racing

Zach Hamilton loves making diesel engines run better and make more power. To that end his company, Hamilton Cams, makes camshafts, cylinder heads, and valvetrain components for Dodge/Ram Cummins, Ford Powerstroke, and GM Duramax diesels that are designed to make an engine operate more efficiently. And a more efficient engine makes more power.

Summit Racing carries a good selection of Hamilton Cams products for your diesel—take a look at a few:

Camshafts
Whether you're towing 30,000 lbs. in the mountains, drag racing, or sled pulling, chances are Hamilton Cams makes a camshaft to fit your needs. In fact, The Hamilton Cams camshaft FAQ section outlines how to choose the right cam for your application.

Summit Racing offers Hamilton Cams camshafts for 12- and 24-valve Dodge/Ram Cummins engines. We also have a cam profile for the 6.6L GM Duramax and a couple for Ford’s 6.0/6.4L, 6.7L, and 7.0L Powerstroke engines. Custom grind cams are also available—talk with your Summit Racing rep for more information. All Hamilton Cams camshafts are for off-road use only.

Street and Towing Camshaft Kits for Dodge/Ram Cummins
These camshaft kits for 12- and 24-valve engines have matched components to allow quicker spool-up with the factory turbo and more bottom-end torque. Towing cams also offer more torque on the bottom end of the power range:
•  Lifters promote better lobe life with today's low zinc oils and are effective up to 5,000 RPM
• Heavy duty pushrods can handle increased cylinder pressure, spring pressure, and RPM
• Valve springs can handle up to 4,500 RPM and work with OEM-sized valves
• Tool steel valve locks and retainers

Valve Spring and Retainer Kits
Diesel engines running higher RPMs, increased boost, or a more aggressive cam can experience some serious valvetrain issues. One is valve float. The other is reversion, caused by higher boost and exhaust drive pressures. This pressure forces the valve open, allowing exhaust gas to enter the cylinder on the intake stroke. This reduces power by delaying combustion, decreasing maximum pressure and temperature in the cylinder, and lengthening the time needed to completely burn the fuel.

Hamilton Cams valve spring and retainer kits feature upgraded valve springs that allow the use of higher boost pressures and RPM without valve float or unacceptable levels of reversion. The kits with single valve springs and tool steel retainers work well up to 4,500 RPM with moderate-lift camshafts and OEM-size valves. If you have a high-lift cam, larger valves, and run higher RPMs, go with a dual valve spring kit with either steel or titanium retainers. The valve spring kits are available for Dodge/Ram Cummins, GM Duramax, and Ford Powerstroke.

Stage 1 and Stage 2 Cylinder Heads for 12-Valve Dodge Cummins
These cylinder heads feature high velocity intake ports that help reduce turbo lag and lower exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs). The head castings have a thicker deck to reduce heat warpage and cracking, and the factory-style intake shelf improves airflow to cylinders one and six. The heads can be machined to use fire rings and O-rings, and come assembled with beehive springs, valves and valve seats, locks, and retainers.

The difference between the two heads is intake valve size—the Stage 1 heads have 1.75 inch diameter intake valves and the Stage 2s have 1.850 inch valves to generate higher airflow.

Summit Racing also carries Hamilton Cams cylinder heads for Ford Powerstroke engines, fire ring head gaskets, pushrods, and even competition engine blocks for 6.7L Dodge/Ram Cummins engines.
