Fitting a five-speed transmission in a classic muscle car, hot rod, or old truck used to literally run into the transmission tunnel, requiring beating on the floorpan to make room. The Tremec TKX five-speed has a strong, compact aluminum case that clears most transmission tunnels and has three shifter locations so you can put the stick where it fits best. You can even bang gears at 7,500 RPM and the TKX won’t miss a beat.

The TKX is rated to handle up to 600 lbs.-ft. of torque. The aluminum case is a three-piece design (main case, intermediate plate and rear extension) that is strong and compact enough to clear most transmission tunnels without floorpan modifications. The list of other features is as long as your arm:

• High-grade steel gears and shafts to handle large amounts of engine torque
• All gears supported by caged needle bearings to reduce endplay
• Gear layout minimizes noise, vibration and harshness (NVH)
• Wide gears for durability and higher torque capacity
• Gaskets at all flanges eliminate fluid leaks
• Multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid sintered bronze/carbon synchronizer rings for smoother shifts
• Short-throw billet aluminum shifter isolates road noise while providing clean, crisp shifts
• 26-spline input and 31-spline output shafts for added strength (Ford also available with 10-spline input shaft)
• Built-in reverse light switch and cruise control safety switch
