Hyperco Coil and Leaf Springs Now Available at Summit Racing
For 50 consecutive years (1964-2014), Hyperco coil springs were standard equipment on every car that won the Indianapolis 500. If you can think of a race part with that kind of record, we’d like to hear about it.
Hyperco got its start when an engineer named Jim Fielder started making springs for racing in the early 1960s. His designs quickly dominated motorsports suspension technology, and Hyperco has further refined them to keep you competitive today.
Summit Racing carries Hyperco coil and leaf springs for racing and street performance:
Hypercoil™ Coilover Springs
Hypercoil coilover springs are lighter than standard coil springs, and hold their free length and spring rates far longer than competing coilovers. They are available in two designs:
• Optimum Body Diameter (OBD) coilovers are made from ultra-high tensile steel. They adjust the body diameter of the spring relative to the end coils under load for additional deflection and more resistance to bowing. That means an OBD spring has a more consistent spring rate and offers predictable performance race after race.
• Ultra High Travel (UHT) coilovers are designed specifically for light rate/high travel applications such as dirt and pavement oval track racing. The UHT design meets the requirements of soft spring and big sway bar setups, and has a larger “body bulge” than the OBD spring design. That allows for additional deflection, rate linearity, and resistance to bowing.
Composite Leaf Springs
Made from a proprietary epoxy matrix material, Hyperco’s composite leaf springs are 70% lighter than steel. And since they don’t corrode like steel, they last much longer too. The springs retain their arch to prevent sagging and chassis inconsistency, and can help oval track racers get more side bite off the corners. That can mean improved lap times.
Hyperco composite leaf springs are available in Chrysler-type and 1967-81 Camaro styles, and are ideal for racing and high performance street use.
Composite Leaf Springs for 1968-2007 Corvette
Hyperco makes composite leaf springs just for you Corvette owners. They’re made from the same epoxy material as Hyperco’s other leaf springs and feature ride height adjusters with Delrin® pads. That feature gives you a wide range of adjustment and tuning options so you can set the look and handling of the car from mild to aggressive.
There are two versions available:
High Performance Street Series (HPS) springs improve cornering ability, road feel, and initial turn-in response while maintaining a quiet and comfortable ride. High Performance Track Series (HPT) springs have the same features as the HPS springs, but have race-ready spring rates ideal for autocrossing, track days, and competitive racing.
Summit Racing also carries Hyperco’s conventional and helper coil springs as well as coilover springs for Indy Lights and SCCA racing, quarter midgets, and Formula SAEs.
