Total Seal Crosshatch Angle Tools
The crosshatch pattern on your engine’s cylinder bores provides a surface for piston rings to seat against and also aid in oil retention. The angle of that crosshatching plays a critical role in performance. Too shallow of an angle can cause blowby and bore wear issues. Too steep an angle can cause oil consumption.

Find out if you have the right crosshatch angle with the Total Seal Crosshatch Angle Tool. The clear plastic card is marked from zero to 30 degrees. To check your crosshatch angle, align the zero mark with the top of the block deck and match the crosshatch lines inside the bore to the lines on the card. This Total Seal video shows you how to use the card and gives you some background info on crosshatch angle too.
