Johnson's Hot Rod Shop 1932 Ford Components Now Available at Summit Racing

Down in Gadsdsen, Alabama is Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop. The name might not be familiar, but proprietor Alan Johnson’s cars are—cars like Doug Cooper’s “Deucenberg” 1932 Ford B-400 2009 Ridler Award winner, Bob Johnson’s “G-Force” 1971 ‘Cuda that took the Goodguys 2006 Street Machine of the Year honors, and even a couple of Bonneville land speed record cars.

One of Alan Johnson’s favorite cars is the ’32 Ford, and you now can get many of the same custom parts he uses in his builds for your Deuce project. Summit Racing offers a good selection of Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop components including these:

Kinmont Safety Stop Front Brake Kits
Vintage Kinmont Safety Stop disc brakes look awesome with their finned backing plates. The mechanism—similar to a clutch using a disc with friction material sandwiched between a pressure plate and the backing plate—worked, but could be finicky if not adjusted properly. And good luck finding any as only 325 sets were made back in the 1940s.

Two years in the making, Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop Kinmont Safety Stop brake kits combine the vintage look of the original brakes with the stopping power of modern discs. Johnson’s Kinmont brakes are designed around the venerable ’37-’48 Ford spindle and feature 10.5 inch vented rotors and four-piston aluminum calipers with stainless steel pistons. The overall design allows for easy assembly and access to the bleeder valves. The drum cover and backing plate are precision cast and available in as-cast or polished finishes. The billet aluminum hubs are available in 5 x 4.50/4.75, 5 x 5/5.5, and 5/5.5 knock off hub bolt patterns.

Need proof Johnson’s Kinmont Safety Stop brakes work? The shop built five 1932 Fords with its brakes and drove them over 3,000 miles from Gadsden, Alabama to the L.A. Roadster show in Los Angeles with no issues. Color us convinced.

Hole Shot Front Radius Rods
Hot Rod Hole Shot radius rods are a modern take on the traditional split wishbone. The radius rods are manufactured from T6061 aluminum in three styles—round hole, oval hole, and raised lip oval hole—in a choice of machined or show polished finishes. They measure 33.25 inches center to center and have a standard Ford style 2.25 inch axle perch boss with the correct caster angle built in. The Hole Shot radius rods are sold in pairs and fit standard Ford style I-beam axles with early and aftermarket spring perches.

Hole Shot Rear Ladder Bars
Match your Hole Shot front radius rods with a set of Hole Shot ladder bars. The bars locate the rear end housing of your hot rod and provide a smoother ride and better traction under hard acceleration. They are engineered for use on either a transverse Model A buggy spring or a coilover shock rear suspension. The Hole Shot ladder bars measure 42.75 inches center tocenter and come with hardware, weld-on rear end housing brackets, and weld-on ladder bar crossmember for a center K-member.

Low Boy Front Shock Headlight Mount Kits
The Low Boy front shock headlight mount kit cleans up your ’32 Ford’s front end by eliminating extra brackets and tucking the headlights close to the frame and grille shell. The combination mount is made from investment cast 304 stainless steel and is available as-cast with stainless steel ARP hardware or in a show polished finish with polished ARP hardware. The mount kit is sold in pairs and comes with weld-in bungs for the frame.

Summit Racing also carries Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop steering components, sway bar kits, shifters, taillight assemblies, air cleaners, and more.
