Keep Fluid Temperatures Under Control with a Derale Hi-Flow Racing Remote Cooler
Heat is your drivetrain’s biggest enemy. Get your engine oil or transmission fluid temperatures into the red during a race and your proverbial goose is cooked.
Here are some sobering statistics for what happens when automatic transmission fluid temperature gets too high:
• At 240 degrees F, important fluid additives begin to break down, forming varnish inside the transmission
• At 260 degrees F, internal transmission seals begin to harden and produce internal and external fluid leaks
• At 295 degrees F, transmission clutch plates begin to slip as the fluid continues to break down
• At 315 degrees F, seals and clutches burn out and carbon forms in the fluid, essentially rendering the transmission to junk
That’s some scary stuff, but a remote-mount fluid cooler like Derale’s Hi-Flow Racing Remote Cooler will keep engine oil or transmission fluid temperatures under control. It is much more efficient than an OEM-style transmission cooler that sits in the radiator or an engine oil cooler that mounts in front of the radiator. You can locate the Hi-Flow cooler where it fits best and sits in a constant stream of air. That also eliminates heat soak issues from sitting in the engine compartment.
Derale says its Hi-Flow Racing Remote Cooler is the most efficient tube-and-fin design on the market. TIG-welded from aircraft-grade aluminum, the cooler features extruded cooling tubes with internal turbolators that force the oil or fluid toward the inner walls of the tubes to dissipate heat more quickly.
The dual fan cooler has 11 rows of tubing and two five inch diameter puller-style electric fans rated at 630 CFM. It measures 15 inches wide x 8.25 inches high x 7 inches deep.
The single fan coolers have 18 rows of tubing and an eight inch diameter puller-style fan rated at either 625 or 755 CFM. They measure 11.875 inches wide x 12.375 inches high x 8.5 inches deep.
