Firman Generators are rated for running watts and starting watts. Running watts refers to the continuous power a generator can supply, and starting watts refers to the momentary boost of power the generator can supply to start a motor. For example, when a refrigerator or other heavy-duty appliance is hooked to a generator, a large amount of power is required to get the motor going (starting watts). Once the motor is at full speed, the current needed to keep it running declines to a steady state (running watts).
