Keep Your LS Engine Spinning with a Powermaster Starter
Is your high-compression LS engine a pain to start? A new Powermaster gear reduction starter will fix that problem. Powermaster starters are available to provide up to 250 lbs.-ft. of torque to turn over engines making 11:1, 14:1, or even 18:1 compression. Most have adjustable mounting blocks so you can clock the starter to clear most headers and kickout-style oil pans. Powermaster even dyno-tests each starter to make sure it produces the cranking torque you expect.
You’ll note that some Powermaster starters are listed as Hitachi-style and others as Denso-style. The main difference is how the solenoid is mounted—Hitachi starters have an externally-mounted solenoid while Denso starters have it built into the starter housing.
All Powermaster starters except the Mastertorque starter are available with your choice of natural or chrome finishes.
The PowerMax Starter is a full-size, inline-style starter rated at 160 lbs.-ft. of torque and can handle engines rated up to 10:1 compression. It is built with a larger armature and field coil to deliver stronger, faster, and more reliable starting. The starter does not have an adjustable mounting block.
The Mastertorque Starter is rated at 180 lbs.-ft. of torque and has a 3.25:1 gear reduction ratio to handle engines with compression ratios up to 14:1. The mini Denso-style starter has Powermaster’s Infi-Clock mounting block that rotates 360 degrees so you can adjust the starter in any increment to position wherever you need it to clear obstacles.
The PowerMax Plus Starter is a mini Hitachi-style starter available in three versions:
• 160 lbs.-ft. torque with 6.10:1 gear reduction for engines up to 11:1 compression, 12-position adjustable mounting block
• 170 lbs.-ft. torque with 3.70:1 gear reduction for engines up to 14:1 compression, three-position adjustable mounting block
• 180 lbs.-ft. torque with 3.70:1 gear reduction for engines up to 16:1 compression, three-position adjustable mounting block
The XS Torque Starter is a mini Denso-style starter rated at 200 lbs.-ft. of torque with a 4.4:1 gear-reduction ratio. It can handle engines with compression ratios as high as 18:1 and has Powermaster’s Infi-Clock mounting block that can rotate 360 degrees.
The Ultra Torque Starter lives up to its name by delivering 250 lbs.-ft. of torque with a 4.4:1 gear reduction ratio. That makes it perfect for big cubic inch engines with up to 18:1 compression. The Hitachi-style starter has a three-position mounting block.
