Keep Your Race Motor Humming with Mobil 1 Racing Motor Oil
Mobil put synthetic motor oil in the motoring public’s eye when it introduced Mobil 1 in 1974. More than 40 years later, Mobil 1 oil is the factory fill in many performance cars including the Corvette, and is used by race teams in NASCAR, IMSA, World of Outlaws, Formula Drift, and SCCA.
Summit Racing now carries Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, transmission fluid, and gear lube for street and racing use, but it’s the new Racing Motor Oil that really got our attention. Mobil 1 Racing oils are low viscosity, synthetic base oils that offer these advantages over conventional oil:
• Maximizes horsepower during race conditions by reducing friction
• 1,850 ppm of zinc and 1,750 ppm of phosphorus for outstanding wear protection under high loads and temperatures
• Protection against high temperatures and deposits
• Detergent technology provides excellent engine component cleanliness
• No need for special break-in oil if using Mobil 1 as standard fill
Summit Racing carries two types of race-only Mobil 1 motor oil:
Mobil 1 Racing 0W-50
• Wide-viscosity grade, low-friction racing oil for increased bearing protection when running higher oil temperatures
• Exceptional high-temperature protection in high RPM engine operation, even at temperatures over 500°F
• Recommended for a wide range of race engine applications, including engines with high-load valvetrains
Mobil 1 Racing 0W-30
• Very low friction racing oil developed for a wide variety of race engines including NASCAR and ARCA
• Exceptional high-temperature protection in high RPM engine operation, even at temperatures over 500°F
We also offer Mobil 1 motor oil in a 15W-50 formulation for high performance street and racing engines. Used by Corvette Racing and multiple USAC and Sprint Car teams, this higher viscosity, full synthetic formula is ideal for high performance street, racing, towing, and other severe service use. It meets or exceeds OEM requirements for turbocharged and supercharged EFI gasoline and diesel engines.
Mobil provided us with these handy FAQs for its Mobil 1 Racing oil:
Zero weight oils are thinner. Will using a zero-weight oil cause excessive engine wear while racing or qualifying?
Mobil 1 Racing 0W-30 and 0W-50 oil have the same or higher viscosity rating at operating temperatures as other SAE 30 and 50 grade oils. Mobil 1 Racing oils are designed to help reduce engine friction and protect the engine under high RPM, high operating temperature conditions.
How will Mobil 1 Racing 0W-50 hold up in high-heat applications like turbocharging and supercharging?
Mobil 1 Racing oils offer high-temperature protection at temperatures over 500 degrees Fahrenheit and are well-suited for turbo- and supercharged engines.
What is the drain interval with Mobil 1 Racing 0W-50?
Oil drain intervals in racing conditions can vary widely. Depending on specific racing applications and conditions, intervals of 500 miles or more are attainable. When determining the correct interval, used oil quality should be monitored because each application and environment can be different.
Why are Mobil 1 Racing oils are not recommended for street use?
Motor oils designed for street use are required to have a lower level of zinc and phosphorus anti-wear additives to be compatible with emission control equipment, especially catalytic converters. Mobil 1 Racing oils are formulated with twice the level of zinc and phosphorus found in street-use oil to provide enhanced protection of highly loaded valve train systems found in some race engines. Based on the high level of anti-wear additives, Mobil 1 Racing oils are not recommended for street use.
How does Mobil 1 Racing 0W-50 react to ethanol/methanol-based fuels?
Mobil 1 oils are compatible with most fuels. However, excess fuel dilution may require more frequent changes and used oil analysis for quality monitoring.
Are Mobil 1 Racing oils compatible with a wet clutch engine?
These oils are not recommended for wet clutch applications due to their high level of molybdenum.
