Keep Yourself Safe with a Takata Racing Multi-Point Harness
Here’s a little history lesson. In 1964, Takata Racing introduced its first full-harness seat belt system for the Subaru 360 factory racer that ran in that season’s Japanese Grand Prix. Since then, Takata Racing harnesses have become standard equipment for all sorts of motorsports from drifting to Formula 1, and are big in the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) tuner scene. Class dismissed.
Summit Racing carries Takata Racing harnesses for full-competition, track day, and street use, including these:
RACE 3x2 Harnesses
These FIA-approved six-point harnesses have three inch V-type shoulder straps, two inch lap belts, dual two inch anti-submarine belts, and an aluminum multi-point release camlock buckle. The shoulder belts have pull-down adjusters for quick fitment and are designed to wrap around a harness bar or roll bar. The lap and anti-submarine belts have snap-on brackets wrapped in the belt webbing, making it easy to properly set the lengths of the belts.
Summit Racing also carries Takata Racing RACE 2x2 Harnesses. They have the same features as the RACE 3x2 harnesses but have two inch shoulder belts that are compatible with most head and neck restraint devices.
RACE 4 Harnesses
The RACE 4 harnesses are designed for track day and drift cars. The FIA-approved four-point harnesses feature the multi-point camlock buckle used on the RACE 3x2 harnesses to prevent accidental belt release. They also have Takata Racing’s anti-submarining system in the shoulder belts to prevent you from sliding under the lap belt during a front impact.
The three inch shoulder and two inch lap belts are available with bolt-on or snap-on mounting brackets. The brackets on the shoulder belts are wrapped in the webbing for easy removal if you want to wrap the belts around a harness or roll bar with the included three-bar adjusters. You can also add an anti-submarine belt to your RACE 4 harness to create a true six-point harness.
Drift Series Harnesses
These are the belts you’ll find in serious street rides in Japan. Legal for street use in the U.S., the Drift Series belts have a center pushbutton release buckle and shoulder belts with Takata Racing’s anti-submarining system to prevent you from sliding under the lap belt during a front impact. The harnesses come with your choice of bolt-on or snap-on mounting brackets. The shoulder belt brackets are removable for wraparound mounting on a harness or roll bar using the included three-bar adjusters.
The Drift II harnesses have two inch shoulder and lap belts, while the Drift III harnesses have three inch shoulder and two inch lap belts. Takata Racing says they cannot be used with seats that have an integrated headrest that requires routing the shoulder belts around the outside of the headrest.
