Make Your Camaro, Firebird, or Nova Really Handle with a Ridetech Four-Link System and HQ Series Shocks
1967-69 Camaros and Firebirds were decent handlers in their day, but their leaf spring rear suspension isn’t up to today’s performance standards. Their Chevy Nova cousins have the same issue.
You can really make your F- or X-Body handle by swapping those leaf springs for a Ridetech Four-Link System and a pair of HQ Series coilover shocks. They will dramatically improve ride quality, traction, and handling by eliminating wheel hop and increasing stability through the corners thanks to better articulation, an optimized roll center height, and built-in anti-squat.
Four-Link Systems
Ridetech’s Four-Link Systems feature double-adjustable upper and lower bars with R-Joint rod ends. The low-friction R-Joints provide full range articulation and are self-lubricating for long service life. They also have a spring-loaded closure that keeps the mechanism tight and rattle free for quiet operation.
No cutting or fabrication is required for installation. A stout tubular cradle bolts between the frame rails creating attachment points for the upper bars and shocks. The lower bars attach to the OEM leaf spring mounts and to the axle with bolt-on brackets. You will have to weld four small tabs to the axle to attach the upper bars, but that’s the extent of it. The instructions will explain everything.
Other features include:
• Lower the rear of the car one to three inches
• Compatible with mini-tubs
• No cutting through the floor pan
The Four-Link System for Chevy Nova will fit all 1968-72 models and 1973-74 models without a ‘bump’ in the rear subframe rails. This kit will fit cars with the bump-type rails.
HQ Series Coilover Shocks
These HQ Series coilovers are designed for use with Ridetech’s Four-Link Systems. The shocks have a monotube, gas-pressurized design that offers superior, fade-free performance. They also have 24 settings for adjusting rebound. The 2.5-inch diameter springs are made from high tensile, CNC cold-wound steel that is lightweight and offers increased travel.
Other shock features include:
• Impact forged aluminum body with clear anodized finish
• Large 1.834-inch piston for excellent ride quality
• 5/8-inch chrome shaft
• Double sealed rod guide with dust cover eliminates oil leakage
• Fine-thread pinch clamp height adjuster
• Kevlar-lined spherical bearings for noise-free operation
Ford 9-Inch Axle Assemblies
If you want to upgrade from your car’s 10-bolt rear axle to a stronger Ford 9-inch axle, Ridetech makes it easy. Their 9-Inch Rear Axle Housings have the four-link and sway bar brackets already welded on, making them a bolt-on installation on your RideTech four-link suspension.
Features include:
• Webbed center section with internal gussets
• 3-inch diameter, 1/4-inch wall axle tubes with billet steel flanges (New Style big bearing/Torino)
• Pinion offset 1/2-inch, axle flange offset 2.5 inches
• Third member studs installed
• Drain plug, jack pad, and Grade 8 hardware
• Choice of stock length (60.25 inches) or narrowed (54.75 inches) for use with mini-tubs
• Choice of black powdercoat or raw finishes
The axle housings come with a set of 31-spline, heat-treated 1541H alloy steel axles with a 5- x 4.75 inch bolt pattern and 1/2-inch diameter Grade 8 wheel studs. Timken SET20 bearings are pressed onto the axles and bearing retaining plates are included.
