Make Your Fox Body a Better Handler with Detroit Speed Front Suspension Packages and Components
Fox Body Mustangs are revered for their straight-line performance. Handling? Er, not so much. But you can fix that problem with Detroit Speed front suspension components. They’ll tighten up your Mustang’s cornering and boost high-speed stability on the street and track.
Front Speed 1 Handling Packages
The Front Speed 1 Handling Packages provide just the right balance of comfort and control. They feature QA1 single-adjustable struts for a refined ride. The tubular lower control arms have SN95 ball joints for improved suspension geometry, plus Detroit Speed’s Weight Jack system with 700 lb.-in. coil springs for easy ride height and corner balance adjustments.
The packages also include billet caster/camber plates that provide independent caster and camber control to dial-in the perfect alignment. The plates feature the Speed-LIGN system that lets you make adjustments in 1/16-inch increments. Once set, your alignment stays locked for sharper turn-in, better tire wear, and improved stability.
Rounding out the Front Speed 1 Handling Packages is a 1 7/16-inch diameter, two-position tubular sway bar for reduced body roll. The bar’s unique profile maximizes wheel and tire clearance, too.
Detroit Speed Front Speed 1 Handling Packages are compatible with factory or stock-geometry aftermarket K-members. Packages are available for 1979-89 and 1990-93 Mustangs. Detroit Speed recommends using 1994-95 SN95 Mustang spindles so you get upgraded brakes and five-lug bolt pattern.
Front Speed 2 Handling Packages
The Front Speed 2 Handling Packages are for aggressive street or track driving. They come with the tubular control arms with the Weight Jack system, the billet caster/camber plates, and adjustable roll bar from the Speed 1 Handling Packages, plus QA1 double-adjustable struts and drop-forged aluminum uprights. The uprights provide a two-inch drop in ride height, optimized Ackermann, and improved bump steer geometry for sharper, more responsive steering.
The uprights also have Detroit Speed’s Hubpack bearing system that eliminates spindle pin flex and reduces maintenance. The uprights accommodate S550 Mustang-style brakes for vastly improved stopping power.

Short Long Arm Conversion Systems
Detroit Speed’s Short Long Arm (SLA) Conversion Systems redefine Fox Body handling with a no-compromise double wishbone design that provides optimized suspension geometry, increased strength, and race-proven adjustability.
The systems have frame rail inserts that optimize camber gain and roll center height to significantly improve front-end stability. Tubular upper and lower control arms reduce deflection, providing precise suspension movement and sharper handling response. Drop-forged aluminum uprights help optimize Ackermann and bump steer geometry for sharper, more responsive steering. The hubs have a five-lug pattern and accommodate S550 Mustang-style brakes for much-improved stopping power.
The Detroit Speed/JRi aluminum coilovers offer custom-tuned valving for street and track use. Choose from non-adjustable, single-adjustable, and double-adjustable versions.
Other features include:
• Accommodates 275/35R18 tires on 10-inch wide wheels with full steering lock for maximum grip
• 1 7/16-inch diameter, two-position tubular sway bar
• Compatible with factory and aftermarket K-members
Detroit Speed SLA Conversion Systems require some fabrication, but it’s a small price to pay for a modern, precision-tuned suspension.
Fender Apron Panels
Detroit Speed Fender Apron Panels replace the factory sheetmetal aprons to provide a smooth, clean look and improve wheel and tire clearance at full lock. The 18-gauge steel panels work seamlessly with the Detroit Speed SLA Suspension System’s optimized steering geometry. They also cover the factory frame rail top channel to improve chassis stiffness. Some fabrication is required.
Summit Racing also offers the Detroit Speed aluminum uprights, billet caster/camber plates, and sway bar separately.
