New at Summit Racing: Hellwig Frame FX Kit for 1968-72 Chevelle

Chevy built the 1968-72 Chevelle with a separate frame that features open, C-shaped rails that are three inches wide at the top and bottom. While the design is fine for a car with a stock or mildly built engine, the factory frame will really twist and bend when you turn up the horsepower wick. That’s not a good thing when you’re launching at the drag strip or navigating the cones at an autocross.

The best way to remedy the problem is by boxing the open sections of the frame rails with steel panels. You can measure and cut your own panels, or you can get a Hellwig Frame FX kit. Hellwig did all the work for you; the Frame FX kit includes 14 pre-cut, 10-gauge steel panels that match the factory frame’s thickness. More importantly, the kit doubles the width of the tension side of the frame rail and closes the open areas to dramatically increase torsional and bending stiffness. Hellwig even includes a panel that ties the floorpan to the chassis to further stiffen the structure.

The Frame FX Kit comes with adjustable transmission crossmember brackets that accommodate nearly any drivetrain configuration. All factory chassis and mounting points are retained. Welding is required.
