New at Summit Racing: Hotchkis Performance HP-427 1968 Mustang Parts Combos
If Steve McQueen had a ’68 Mustang fastback like the Hotchkis HP-427 during the chase scene in Bullit, he would have caught the bad men in that black Charger a heck of a lot sooner.
Hotchkis took what’s arguably the most iconic Mustang ever built and created a modern tribute to Detective Frank Bullit’s machine—and Summit Racing created HP-427 Mustang Parts Combos that feature the major building blocks used in the car’s construction.
Drivetrain Combo
The original movie car had a 390 cubic inch big block and a Toploader four-speed. Hotchkis upped the ante considerably with a Ford Racing 427 cubic inch Windsor crate engine rated at 535 horsepower. The 427 is hooked to an American Powertrain T-56 six-speed transmission, and power is routed back to a Currie 9 inch axle with 3.70 gears and a Detroit Truetrac limited slip.
Chassis and Brake Combo
There was a lot of tire squealing and suspension banging in the Bullit chase scene. The HP-427 doesn’t do any of that thanks to its Hotchkis TVS Stage 2 Suspension kit and 1.5 Performance Series adjustable shocks. Wilwood Superlite R front and Superlite 4R disc brake kits haul the Mustang down in a hurry. The HP-427 is shod with Scott Drake 17 x 8 Styled wheels and sticky Bridgestone Potenza RE71R radials.
Body Trim Combo
Scott Drake chrome trim nicely sets off the HP-427’s Huntington Green paint and gold stripes—front and rear bumpers, front hood molding, and grille molding. Scott Drake also supplied a new backup light kit.
Interior Combo
The HP-427’s interior has a slew of TMI goodies that bring it up to 2016 levels of style and comfort—Pro-Chicane Sport VXR Seats, Sport XR Center Console and door panels, Sport XR Synergy Suede Dash Pad, and a Synergy Suede Headliner and sunvisors.
Completer Combo
A pretty short, but important, combo—an American Powertrain X-Factor transmission crossmember to hold the T-56 six-speed in place; an Optima Yellowtop battery to generate electrons; and a Painless Performance 22-circuit wiring harness to get those electrons where they need to go.
