New at Summit Racing: RIPP Supercharger Kits for Jeep JK Wrangler
Jeep did a darn good job designing the JK Wrangler—so good, in fact, that Jeep sells them as fast as they can build ‘em. If there is one area that could use some improvement, it’s in the horsepower department. The factory 3.6L and 3.8L V6 engines are decent but no powerhouses, especially when you add a lift kit and bigger wheels and tires. The engines are also harder to upgrade compared to Jeep’s legendary 4.0L six-cylinder and AMC/Mopar V8 engines.
Fortunately, there is a bolt-on solution to the JK power dilemma—the RIPP Supercharger Kits. Based on a Vortech V3 centrifugal supercharger, a RIPP kit can help a 3.8L JK make 240 horsepower and 260-plus lbs.-ft. of torque at the wheels at just 8 psi of boost. For a 3.6L JK, you’re looking at 325 horsepower and 300 lbs.-ft. of torque. That’s darn close to V8 territory, but without the weight and fuel economy penalties.
RIPP spent a lot of time tuning its kits to improve performance under all conditions, including high altitudes, deserts, and cold/wet climates. The kits come with a preprogrammed DiabloSport Predator tuner. Once the kit is installed, just plug the Predator in the diagnostic port, download the tuneup, and you’re done.
The RIPP Supercharger Kits come complete with a front mounted air-to-air intercooler, larger primary fuel injectors, a proprietary MAP sensor, air filter, and all necessary mounting hardware. The kits for the 2007-11 JKs are emissions-legal for use in California (CARB EO Number D-705).
RIPP says a kit will take about six to eight hours to install; you can see an install story on Summit Racing’s blog, OnAllCylinders.
