New at Summit Racing: Turbosmart Universal Blowoff Valves

When you want to make ludicrous-speed power, turbocharging is tough to beat. There is nothing like the feeling of a car under full boost—at least until you shift gears or back off the throttle. When you do that, the throttle body butterflies snap shut and all that pressurized air has nowhere to go.

That’s called compressor surge—the fluttering sound you hear as the turbo compressor tries to push all that air against the closed throttle body. Turbosmart has an excellent explanation of compressor surge on its website.

Compressor surge is why you need a Turbosmart blowoff valve. Its job is simple—vent unwanted boost pressure. That helps extend turbo life by decreasing the load on the bearings. It will also keep the turbo spooled up when the throttle is closed, like between gear shifts.

Summit Racing carries several types of atmospheric (vents excess boost pressure into the air) and recirculating (circulates pressure back into the intake manifold) Turbosmart blowoff valves:

Race Port
The Race Port is the highest-flow blowoff valve Turbosmart makes. Designed for large-capacity turbocharger systems, it allows faster turbo spool-up from idle and reduced turbo lag between gears. The Race Port is also 25% smaller and 46% lighter than the previous version, a big plus in an engine bay packed full of turbo plumbing. Vacuum fittings and a weld-on flange are included.

Big Bubba
The Big Bubba is a recirculating design for big horsepower, high boost turbos on big block gas V8s and diesels. The Big Bubba is fully adjustable and features a heavy duty, CNC billet aluminum body and components. It comes with a -4 AN threaded vacuum port and a two inch diameter outlet.

Vee-Port PRO
The Vee-Port PRO is designed to fit in spaces where even the Race Port blowoff valve can’t fit. It has a unique, variable exhaust port system to efficiently vent excess pressure into the atmosphere.

Summit Racing also carries Turbosmart blowoff valves for factory turbo cars and low-boost turbo applications. A Summit Racing tech rep will be happy to help you select the right one for your system.
