Optima Redtop Starting Batteries: More Cranking Power Means Easier Starting
Most automotive batteries are starting batteries, but only Optima’s RedTop 12- and 6-volt Starting Batteries are engineered with Spiralcell technology that delivers more power and consistently outperforms conventional flat-plate batteries. RedTop batteries have fast recharge rates, are 15 times more vibration-resistant than ordinary batteries, and are maintenance-free thanks to their Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) design. The batteries are sealed and leakproof so you can mount them anywhere and in virtually any position. That makes them ideal for racing and off-roading as well as your daily driver.
Starting batteries are designed for high-current, short duration charges like starting the engine. Once the vehicle starts, the alternator handles the charging duties for the electrical system and recharges the battery. A starting battery is not designed to support high current loads from things like off-road lighting and electric winches, cannot power an electrical system by itself, and won’t handle multiple discharge/recharge cycles without reducing its lifespan. For those types of tasks you need a deep-cycle battery like the Optima YellowTop. They can handle heavy accessory loads where the alternator cannot maintain the battery in a fully charged condition.
