Powermaster Has the Starter You Need to Keep Your Small Block Ford Engine Spinning
Your Ford car or truck deserves a starter that can crank out more power, avoid tricky clearance issues, and provide superior dependability over stock equipment.
Powermaster starters deliver on all fronts. Summit Racing carries 30 versions of their starters for small block Ford to fit vehicles from 1963-2008. Each starter is individually tested and comes with a Dyno Tested Proof of Performance Guarantee. They’re available in natural or chrome finishes, except for Mastertorque models that have a powdercoated black wrinkle finish.
You’ll notice that some Powermaster starters are listed as Hitachi-style and others as Denso-style. The main difference is how the solenoid is mounted—Hitachi starters have an externally-mounted solenoid while Denso starters have it built into the starter housing.
The PowerMax Starter is a full-size, inline-style starter rated at 160 lbs.-ft. of torque and can handle engines rated up to 10:1 compression. The PowerMax is built with a larger armature and field coil to deliver stronger, faster, and more reliable starting. The starter does not have an adjustable mounting block.
The PowerMax Plus Starter is a mini Hitachi-style starter with an adjustable mounting block that allows you to rotate the main motor and solenoid assembly away from hot exhaust headers and other components. That helps eliminate hot-start issues that can leave you stranded.
Choose from three versions:
• 160 lbs.-ft. torque with 6.10:1 gear reduction for engines up to 11:1 compression;
12-position adjustable mounting block
• 170 lbs.-ft. torque with 3.70:1 gear reduction for engines up to 14:1 compression; five-position adjustable mounting block
• 180 lbs.-ft. torque with 3.70:1 gear reduction for engines up to 16:1 compression; five-position adjustable mounting block
The Mastertorque Starter is a Denso-style starter rated at 180 lbs.-ft. of torque. It features a 3.25:1 gear reduction ratio to handle engines with compression ratios up to 14:1. The Mastertorque includes Powermaster’s patented Infi-Clock™ mounting block. This billet aluminum block allows you to rotate the starter body a full 360 degrees for clearance around aftermarket exhaust headers, oil pan kickouts, and suspension components.
The XS Torque Starter is a mini Denso-style starter rated at 200 lbs.-ft. of torque with a 4.4:1 gear reduction ratio. It can handle engines with compression ratios as high as 18:1. Powermaster says it’s the lightest 200 lbs.-ft. starter available. The Infi-Clock™ rotatable mounting block is also included.
The Ultra Torque Starter delivers 250 lbs.-ft. of torque with a 4.4:1 gear reduction ratio, making it perfect for big cubic inch engines with up to 18:1 compression. The Hitachi-style starter has a five-position mounting block.
OEM-Style High-Torque Replacement Starters combine a stock, vintage appearance with more cranking power. They’re built with a much stronger motor, a direct-drive setup that generates up to 100 lbs.-ft. of torque, and a heat-resistant solenoid to stop hot-start and heat-soak issues.
