Prep Your Mustang’s Chassis for More Power with a Detroit Speed Fox Chassis Stiffening Kit

It’s easy to add horsepower to 1979-93 Mustangs. Problem is, the Fox body chassis is not the most robust Ford ever built. If you add a bunch of power and don’t prep the car to handle it, that flimsy chassis will twist like the proverbial pretzel.

A Detroit Speed Fox Chassis Stiffening Kit makes it easy to stiffen up your Mustang to handle healthy doses of horsepower. Here’s what you get.

Subframe Connectors
Fabricated from 2 x 2 inch, .083 inch wall steel tube and .090 inch thick steel plate, Detroit Speed Subframe Connectors provide maximum torsional stiffness by connecting the rear torque box to the firewall, essentially creating two continuous frame rails. The weld-in connectors reinforce the lower four-link pocket and strengthen the rear torque box to prevent cracking, a common issue with Fox bodies. The connectors also strengthen the seat mounts and do not affect ground clearance.

EXO Brace
One particular weak spot on Fox body Mustangs are the torque boxes, the point where the rear suspension upper links mount to the chassis. Add some power and the torque boxes will weaken over time. Add enough power and the torque boxes can be ripped off the car as it twists under acceleration.

Detroit Speed’s EXO Brace fixes the issue by tying the link pockets into the frame and floor pan on both sides of the frame rails. It also connects the torque boxes together with a crossmember that ‘telescopes’ to accommodate chassis movement. Detroit Speed even added a second upper link mounting hold to help correct the instant center on lowered cars.

The EXO Brace can be bolted or welded in. Welding it in will support the torque boxes on cars making 400-plus horsepower.
