QA1 Coilover Suspensions Kits Turn Your GMT400 Pickup into a Corvette with a Bed (Almost)

The prices of 1968-72 GM pickups are heading to the moon—heck, even the 1973-87 squarebodies aren’t cheap anymore. But the General’s 1988-98 GMT400 trucks are still affordable and readily available, making them ideal platforms for customization.

If your idea of fun is a C1500 that can carve corners, QA1 has the suspension you need to build one. Its Coilover Suspension Kits can make your truck handle like it’s a Corvette with a bed—or really darn close.

Front Coilover Conversion Kits
These bolt-in kits replace the stock control arms and shocks with tubular control arms and Pro Coil coilover shocks to improve stability and make room for larger wheel and tire packages. Ride height and shock valving are adjustable so you can dial in the amount of drop and ride quality to suit your taste. You can add up to seven degrees of caster and +2 to -3 degrees of camber, and the extended upper ball joint significantly improves camber gain during cornering.

The conversion is available in two levels:

The Level 2 kit provides up to two inches of drop with stock height spindles, and up to four inches with drop spindles. It comes with single-adjustable Pro-Coil coilover shocks with 550 pound springs.

The Level 3 kit will drop your truck’s front end up to six inches. It includes a fabricated, bolt-in upper control arm mount to reduce anti-dive and improve stability by tying in the upper shock mount. It has double-adjustable Pro-Coil coilovers with 600 pound springs.

Both kits have upper and lower control arms with performance ball joints and low-friction, maintenance-free polyurethane bushings. Installation hardware is included.

Rear Coilover Conversion Kit
This kit can drop the rear of your truck four to seven inches. It has the proven torque arm design used in QA1’s conversion kits for the 1963-87 C10 and 1965-72 Ford F-100. The major benefit of the torque arm design is that each component performs one function, providing better handling and a smooth ride without the inherent binding issues of other systems. The adjustable trailing arms let you set up the suspension for optimum anti-squat, and the full-length adjustable panhard bar has multiple mounting locations to tailor roll center geometry to the amount of suspension drop.

The Rear Coilover Conversion Kit requires no welding or bed removal. You will have to notch the truck’s frame rails; QA1 includes a template for that job. All required brackets, mounts, and hardware are included.

Don’t forget the anti-sway bars. QA1’s anti-sway bars feature adjustable end links to customize roll stiffness to your specifications and come with greasable graphite polyurethane bushings.
