RainGear Windshield Wiper Systems Now Available at Summit Racing
One of GM’s less-than-brilliant ideas was the cable-operated windshield wiper system used on 1953-57 Chevy passenger cars and the Corvette through 1962. The wiper arms were operated by a cable-and-spool mechanism powered by an electric wiper motor. As you can imagine, it didn’t take long for those cables to stretch or break, leaving the poor car owner without functioning wipers.
RainGear solves this problem by replacing the factory wipers with a rugged, time-proven lever and link windshield wiper system. The RainGear system fits the two-speed electric motor and mechanism entirely under the dash using the factory system’s mounting points. That helps make room for big block engine swaps and HEI distributors—just remove the old wiper motor and cover the hole with the supplied cover plate. The RainGear system uses the factory wiper arms and trim; you can also use the original wiper knob and bezel for the new wiper switch.
In addition to 1953-57 Chevy and 1953-62 Corvette, RainGear Wiper Systems are also available to replace the factory wipers on these vehicles:
• 1947-59 Chevy/GMC pickup
• 1948-56 Ford F1 and F100
• 1964-72 GM A-body
• 1967-81 Camaro and Firebird
• 1969-74 GM X-body
Some RainGear Wiper Systems are available with an intermittent wiper feature. All systems come with the motor, wiring harness, switch, cover/adapter plate and hardware.
