Range Technology AFM Disabler Device for GM Vehicles Now Available at Summit Racing

GM’s Active Fuel Management System (AFM) is designed to help V6- and V8-powered vehicles meet fuel economy standards. That’s a good thing, but AFM has an annoying habit of kicking in when you need every cylinder firing—towing and off-road use come to mind.

The Range AFM Disabler Device can fix that problem. It is designed to prevent the AFM system from dropping cylinders so your vehicle stays in full six- or eight-cylinder mode all the time. Just plug the Range device in the onboard OBD-II port. Range uses messages sent over the factory CAN-Bus system to "tell" the ECU to stay in full power mode. That means the AFM is disabled at the source and your vehicle will run as it normally would in full power mode, and downshift lag problems are eliminated.

The Range AFM Disabler Device may even help if your truck has an oil consumption issue related to the AFM system. According to Range, when the AFM puts the engine in V4 mode, oil tends to be splashed around on the top end of the engine and over-lubricates the valve seals. The extra oil then gets sucked into the PCV system and then into the cylinders to be burned. By disabling the AFM, the Range device may prevent that oil splash and reduce oil consumption. If you have an oil consumption problem, we strongly suggest checking for other issues like scored cylinder walls, broken components or oil rings that have lost tension, bad valve guides, etc. to make sure there are no mechanical issues causing the increased oil use.

The Range Technology AFM Disabler Device works on many 2005-2016 GM vehicles with AFM, including passenger cars and V6-equipped vehicles. We know you truck guys and Camaro owners will really love it.
