Reduce Exhaust Noise without Losing Power with SpinTech Performance Mufflers
It began as a NASA engineering challenge: Design an exhaust system for Saturn rocket boosters that would reduce noise without sacrificing power. The engineers solved the problem by using technology based on the second law of thermodynamics—entropy. In short, specially designed sound traps inside the muffler’s case spin and create vortexes. Vent holes placed in the sound traps form a venturi effect. As gas flows through the holes, the pressure drops, and exhaust gases are extracted out of the trap. As the engine pushes more exhaust gas into the muffler, the flow stream refills the trap and the vortex and venturi motion are repeated, converting sound to heat as it is sent out through the tailpipes with a dramatically increased flow rate.
That seems like a whole lot of science just to quiet down your car, doesn’t it? It is, but that’s the kind of engineering behind SpinTech Performance Mufflers. The mufflers are fully welded and have no packing to burn out, so they’ll stay quiet a long time. This “power-with-quiet” technology is available in three versions:
3000 Series Sportsman Street Mufflers
Originally designed as SpinTech’s race muffler, the 3000 Series Sportsman Street Mufflers were deemed too quiet for the track but just right for the street. They feature a compact size so they can be used as a replacement muffler for most applications, yet their patented design still posts higher flow numbers than comparable mufflers and produce a sound output of just 85-90 dB.
6000 Series Pro Street Mufflers
The 6000 Series Pro Street Mufflers have a sporty soul. They are a direct descendant of the very popular Pro Shoot-Out 1000 Race Mufflers, but feature modifications for more efficient sound reduction. SpinTech recommends them for late-model Mustangs, Camaros, Vettes, Vipers, and other vehicles with multiple catalytic converters. Moreover, SpinTech says they are also great for vintage muscle cars, trucks, and anything else the mufflers physically fit. And even though they are not intended for racing, the 6000 Series Pro Street Mufflers have proven themselves time and again on many race cars with competitive results.
9000 Series Super Pro Street Mufflers
The 9000 Series Super Pro Street Mufflers deliver the most aggressive sound in the SpinTech lineup. Users love their small case size and multiple configuration choices that permit them to fit just about anything while delivering a great sound and maximum horsepower gains. As with the 6000 series, the 9000 Series Super Pro Street Mufflers routinely find their way onto race cars with winning results.
