Resolve Overheating Issues and Improve Temperature Control with a Davies Craig EWP150 Electric Water Pump
The mechanical belt-driven water pump is one of the last components not to be updated on modern engines. We think that it’s high time they fade into history like wide whites and tail fins.
It boils down to cooling and efficiency. A mechanical water pump is turned by the drive belt at the same speed the engine turns, sapping valuable power through parasitic loss. However, the engine doesn’t need the water pump to turn that fast all the time. For example, travelling at moderate-to-high speeds pushes enough air through the radiator for sufficient cooling, so the water pump should turn slowly for optimum efficiency. For idling and/or low speed driving, the opposite is true. You want the water pump turning fast so it moves coolant quickly through the system with the fan pulling large amounts of air through the radiator. Once again, the mechanical water pump does the opposite of what the engine needs, only turning as fast as the engine and not moving enough coolant or air to get the job done.
You can fix these shortcomings once and for all with a Davies Craig EWP150 Electric Water Pump. The pump’s operating speed can be constantly varied to account for traffic, vehicle speed, and throttle conditions while maintaining consistent engine temperature. Pretty sweet, huh? And because an EWP150 is fully electric, there is no parasitic draw on the engine, giving your engine back the 8-13 horsepower it lost turning the mechanical water pump as well as increasing fuel efficiency by 3.5-10%.
Davies Craig’s research also shows an EWP150 water pump uses 90% less energy than mechanical systems, thereby lowering emissions by virtue of faster engine warm up, better engine temperature management, and the elimination of engine heat soak.
The EWP150 water pumps have a strong aluminum housing that weighs just 2.6 pounds, available in your choice of a silver or black powdercoated finish. They can flow up to 40 GPM (gallons per minute) of coolant—a hefty increase over standard type pumps—and use just 10 amps of current. They mount in the bottom radiator hose and come with easy-to-understand installation instructions.
The Davies Craig EWP150 Electric Water Pumps work on all 12V automotive electrical systems. They are recommended for 5.0L and larger modified engines used in just about any application from street performance to drag racing, four-wheel drive and off-road, drifting, and circle track. You can buy just the EWP150 water pump by itself; in a kit that includes the EWP150 pump, relay, wiring harness, and joiner; or in a combo that includes everything in the kit plus a digital controller, temperature sensor, and inline adapter.
