Roll Your Own Panel Beads with a Mittler Brothers Power Drive Bead Roller
A simple strengthening bead or two can turn a flimsy piece of sheetmetal into a strong panel-and adding those beads is easy with a Mittler Brothers Power Drive Bead Roller.
In the old days, using a bead roller was a two-person operation-one guy to feed the material into the tool and one to turn the crank. The Power Drive Bead Roller makes it a one-person task. A powerful electric motor takes the place of the crank, allowing you to concentrate on crafting panels. That's a huge plus in a home shop. You can even get a Power Drive roller with a foot-operated variable speed controller, giving you total control over your work.
Floor pans, dash panels, and transmission tunnels are common places to add strengthening beads. But there are lots of other areas where beading a panel can be useful-a seat bracket, for instance, or the seam between a windshield and the body (beading creates a step in the metal, allowing the windshield to fit flush). Other examples are fan and radiator shrouds, ducting, and battery boxes. You can probably think of plenty more.
Mittler Brothers offers a large selection of rollers that allow you to create round, square, step, and other types of beads in sizes from 1/8" to 1". The Power Drive Bead Rollers available at Summit Racing come in 24" and 36" throat depths, and can handle steel up to .040" thick and aluminum up to .050" thick.
Summit Racing has a wide selection of other Mittler Brothers metalworking tools including manual bead rollers, tubing benders and notchers, shrinker-stretcher sets, sheetmetal brakes, and more.
