Scale and Trail in Old School Style with an Axial SCX10 III Early Bronco RC Truck

Axial Racing is always pushing the boundaries of ready-to-run (RTR) scale crawler performance. Their new SCX10 III Early Ford Bronco is no exception. It includes the key components that have made the SCX10 III platform very popular while adding features never before found in Axial RC trucks.

Let’s start with the feature that drew your eyes to the truck in the first place. Patterned on a first-gen Bronco, the polycarbonate body has exceptional scale realism inside and out:

  • Roll cage with functional tube doors
  • Seats, dashboard, shifters, foot pedals, steering wheel with column
  • Functional spare tire in a pre-runner style cradle
  • Authentic-looking fender flares and rock sliders provide rock rash protection
  • Grille, hood scoop, license plates, and windshield wipers

The SCX10 III Early Bronco’s bumpers are placed at optimal approach/departure angles, and the headlights and taillights include functional LED lighting. Hidden body mounts connect the body to the chassis to preserve the body lines. Remove the body and you’ll be greeted with a 5.0L Coyote V8 engine cover that cleverly hides the steering servo and high-torque 35T motor. Axial mounted them in the front of the chassis because it’s more realistic and it increases front weight bias for better hill climbing ability. The licensed Falken Wildpeak M/T tires and retro-style kidney bean 3-piece beadlock wheels provide a solid grip on off-road surfaces, and the tires can be easily removed and remounted without gluing. The battery tray accepts full-size LiPo or NiMH battery packs, but there’s also space on the side rails for smaller “shorty” packs. A DIG function on the transmission lets you lock and unlock the rear wheels from the transmitter for a tighter turning radius.

Steering and throttle control is handled by a 3-channel Spektrum DX3 2.4GHz DSMR transmitter and Firma 40-amp ESC/receiver system. This powerful 2-in-1 waterproof combo can handle up to 5-9 cell nickel metal hydride (NiMH) or 2S and 3S lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries. The system also offers the advantages of exclusive Spektrum Smart technology. Install a Spektrum Smart LiPo Battery and you can view vehicle battery capacity at a glance on the transmitter’s voltage level indicator. Outfit the DX3 with the optional BT2000 Bluetooth Module and download the free Spektrum Dashboard app to your smart device, and you can use Smart real-time telemetry to keep tabs on electrical components status such as:

  • Battery cell voltage and balance
  • Battery cycle count
  • Battery temperature
  • Capacity used and percent remaining
  • Motor current
  • ESC temperature and data
  • Battery input voltage
