Slow Down Safely with a Stroud Drag Parachute

Slow down with a parachute made by guys with almost 40 years of experience bringing drag cars to a stop—safely. Stroud Safety parachutes are designed to open reliably and softly. They won’t pull your car off the ground and since they pull low and straight back, your car will stop in much less distance than it would with a conventional parachute.

Stroud parachutes use a deployment bag. It not only holds the parachute when it’s packed inside the retention bag on the back of the car, it also takes the slack out of the shroud lines before the canopy opens. That makes the parachute more reliable and helps stop the vehicle more quickly. The deployment bag also allows the parachute to be packed faster.

Stroud Safety parachutes are available in three versions:

Standard Drag Parachutes use a pilot chute/spring assembly to deploy the main parachute. When the cable is pulled, the pilot chute springs out of the pack, dragging the main canopy with it into the airstream. Standard Drag Parachutes are ideal for bracket or slower doorslammer cars.

Mechanical Spring Launcher Parachutes use a large spring that is compressed into a storage can that goes in the pack along with the parachute. The spring system eliminates the need for a pilot chute for a more consistent deployment. The spring launcher system also makes packing much easier as you don’t have to keep the spring depressed while loading the parachute in the pack.

If your car has an onboard air system, an Air Launcher Parachute is a great choice. The air launcher system uses a piston that pushes the parachute out of the pack when the button is activated. This eliminates the heavy mechanical spring unit to save weight. The parachutes come with air line and fittings.
