Solve Your LS Swap Cooling Problems with a Be Cool Bone Yard Series Radiator

One thing that’s easily overlooked when swapping a GM LS engine in an older vehicle is the radiator. The original or stock replacement radiator is usually not sufficient to cool an LS engine, and the inlet and outlet never line up properly. A direct-fit aluminum radiator is a good option, but one of those can get to be big money.

Be Cool solves both problems with these Bone Yard Series Radiators. Its engineers came up with 10 sizes of universal-fit radiators that cover virtually any LS swap scenario. If you’re willing to do some bracket/mount fabrication, a Bone Yard radiator will save you a good chunk of money compared to a direct-fit, too.

The all-aluminum Bone Yard Series radiators have two rows of one inch diameter tubes that provide better heat transfer than OEM-style four-core radiators. In fact, Be Cool guarantees a Bone Yard radiator will lower coolant temperatures by at least 20 degrees. That’s a big deal, especially if you have an engine with performance upgrades that can make it run hotter.

Now, someone always pipes up and says that a copper-brass radiator conducts heat better than aluminum. It’s true that copper is a better heat conductor than aluminum, but there is more to the story. Copper-brass radiators use solder in their construction, which reduces heat transfer capabilities. Be Cool fully welds all of its aluminum radiators with no solder or epoxy. That allows better heat dissipation than a larger copper-brass radiator can provide. Plus, a Be Cool radiator is about 40% lighter than copper-brass, and is much easier to repair.

Most Bone Yard Radiators are a crossflow type, which means the tanks are on each side of the core. Summit Racing also offers two Bone Yard radiators that are downflow types with the tanks on the top and the bottom of the core. Either type has equal cooling capacity as long as the core surfaces are the same in square inches.

Other features include:
• Hand fabricated, .080” wall aluminum tanks
• Correct LS inlets and outlets
• LS 1/4” steam port
• Billet aluminum filler neck and drain petcock
• Downflow radiators have side mounting flanges
• Crossflow radiators are designed for cradle mounting

One more thing—to keep the cost reasonable, Be Cool did not fit an automatic transmission cooler inside the Bone Yard radiators, nor do they come with fan shrouds or electric fans. That isn’t a big deal, though—Summit Racing offers a big selection of external transmission coolers, universal and direct replacement shrouds, and electric fans.
