Stop Deflection with Summit Racing™ HDR Thickwall Pushrods

Pushrod deflection is not usually the subject of polite dinner party conversation, but maybe it should be. Deflection is caused by static valve spring pressure and inertial loads from heavy valvetrain parts. Loads from the valve, spring, retainer, rocker arm, and lifter can create more than 5,000 lbs. of force on a pushrod—that’s the weight of the average SUV balancing on top of a seven-inch long tube thinner than your pinky.

When a pushrod deflects, several bad things result:
• Lost valve lift
• Reduced valvetrain stability
• Valvetrain slack causes components to bang against each other and break
• Valves ‘bounce’ off their seats, preventing them from sealing and causing power loss

You can end deflection issues by using Summit Racing™ HDR Thickwall Pushrods. Made from seamless, heat-treated 4130 chromoly steel, our pushrods feature extra-thick-wall tubing and 210° ball ends to provide more rocker clearance at maximum lift. They are available in three types; the deflection rates are compared to aftermarket 5/16 x .080-wall pushrods:

• The HDR 5/16 x .105-wall pushrods have 25% less deflection. They’re available for small block Chevy, small block Ford, and GM LS
• The HDR 11/32 x .120-wall pushrods have 28% less deflection and are drop-in replacements for GM LS factory 5/16 inch pushrods. They are available in .025 inch increments to fine- tune hydraulic lifter preload.
• The HDR 3/8 x .135-wall pushrods have 20% less deflection and are available for big block Chevy and Gen IV LS7 engines

So go ahead and bring on the horsepower—Summit Racing’s HDR Thickwall Pushrods can take it.
