Once you tighten down an ordinary hose clamp, it stays put. As the hose expands and contracts, the clamp can’t adjust to compensate. If you overtightened it, the clamp cuts into the hose. If the clamp is too loose, the hose won’t stay in place. Both situations create an opportunity for leaks.
