Stop Your Truck with an Alcon Brake Kit with Cast Iron Calipers

Brake kits for late-model pickups and SUVs come with cast iron or aluminum brake calipers. Both types can provide plenty of stopping power.

The brake experts at Alcon build their truck kits with cast iron calipers. Their choice is based on two factors: strength and fitment. A heavy vehicle like a pickup or SUV requires greater clamping loads. That loading routes through the piston area of the caliper housing. If the housing isn’t strong enough, it can’t handle the additional stress and fatigue.

Aluminum calipers must be made with plenty of material to compensate for those loads. More material means a larger caliper. Cast iron is stronger than aluminum, so you can make a caliper that can handle the same loads but is smaller, stiffer, and lighter.

For Alcon, using a smaller cast iron caliper eliminates any possible fitment issues without compromising strength. Alcon says the smaller iron caliper can even help reduce unsprung mass by allowing the use of smaller and lighter 17- and 18-inch wheels.

Alcon Brake Kits offer plenty of other features to improve your truck’s stopping power:
• Six-piston front calipers (most applications) and four-piston rear calipers
• Larger, thicker rotors offer more brake torque and thermal capacity to help reduce brake fade
• High-friction pads increase stopping power
• Increased pad area reduces temperatures and increases pad life
• High-temperature seals for longer life and better dust protection
• Caliper housings have epoxy acrylic paint over an acid-zinc finish for maximum corrosion protection

Summit Racing carries Alcon Brake Kits for popular late-model trucks and SUVs from GM, Ford, RAM, Jeep, Toyota/Lexus, and Range Rover.
