Summit Racing Coated Pistons Can Take the Heat of High Performance Engines

Just think…at 6,000 RPM, the pistons in your engine go up and down the cylinder bores 12,000 times (6,000 up, 6,000 down). You can just feel the wear on the piston skirts and cylinder walls as that happens.

You can reduce some of that wear with a set of Summit Racing Coated Pistons.  The pistons have a special coating on the skirts that only reduces friction across the entire RPM range for better performance, it provides three levels of protection:
• Superior thermal protection in high compression engines
• Better piston-to-cylinder wall scuff and seizure resistance
• Reduced piston ring groove wear

Summit Racing™ Coated Hypereutectic Pistons are made from a T6 heat-treated aluminum alloy with 16 to 18% silicon content. That makes them stronger than ordinary cast aluminum pistons, with less thermal expansion for tighter piston-to-cylinder wall clearances—ideal for a high performance street engine. The pistons have a diamond-finished crown and skirt, which creates a barrel profile that creates an oil wedge between the piston and cylinder wall that further reduces wear. Press-fit wristpins and locks are included.

Summit Racing™ Coated Forged Pistons are made from very high silicon aluminum alloy that’s forged to shape under 3,000 pounds of pressure, then carefully machined to final specification. That means these pistons are very strong and experience little thermal expansion. The pistons have tight piston-to-cylinder wall clearances for better piston ring sealing, reduced piston wobble, and reduced piston skirt and pin bore wear. Wristpins and locks are included.
