Summit Racing™ Pro Series Big Nasty Hydraulic Roller Camshafts: All the Chop, None of the Compromise
There’s nothing like the sound of a car with a choppy idle as it passes by you. That chop used to come at a price—stumbling idle, poor throttle response, and little low-end torque. Run a Summit Racing™ Pro Series Big Nasty Hydraulic Roller Camshaft and you don’t have to sacrifice good street manners for a lumpy idle.
Available for small block Chevy, big block Chevy, and small block Ford, these cams are designed to deliver that choppy idle you love plus a sizeable power increase tailored to your engine displacement, converter stall, axle gearing, and desired powerband. Whether you’re looking for tire-shredding low- and mid-range torque, top-end pull, or something in between, there’s probably a Big Nasty cam grind to help get you there.
Each engine family has three cam profiles:
Big Nasty 1: Lots of low-end power, ideal for getting heavier vehicles off their duffs
Big Nasty 2: Excellent mid-range punch for lighter vehicles or vehicles with a touch more gear than stock
Big Nasty 3: Strong higher-RPM powerband, appreciates steeper gears and higher torque converter stall speeds
Other features include:
• American-made from aerospace-quality 5150 bearing steel and ground on a Landis CNC grinder for superior lobe quality
• Heat-treated before final polishing for consistent case hardening depth over the complete circumference of the core
• Compatible with power brakes in most cases
• Moderate lift numbers allow the use of factory cylinder heads without major modification
• Standard Big Nasty cams are compatible with most factory pistons
Summit Racing Pro Series Big Nasty cams for small and big block Chevy use the LS engine firing order to reduce harmonics. That helps extend bearing life. The firing order swap also increases detonation resistance and improves cylinder head and exhaust gasket life. These cams are designed to use Summit Racing™ LS6-style beehive springs, which work especially well on engines using factory cylinder heads. The springs are lighter than stock and allow the valvetrain to rev higher without adding stress to the rocker arms, lifters, or pushrods. To use them, you will need a set of 11/32-inch diameter Summit Racing Valve Spring Retainers.
Big Nasty Stroker Edition cams offer additional valve lift to deliver more power-producing airflow and have increased overlap for an even gnarlier idle.
