Techflex Sleeving Products Now Available at Summit Racing
Like so many great ideas, Techflex got its start with one man in his garage. William E. Dermody Jr., a former field service engineer for Curtiss Wright Aircraft Company, was inspired by the 1969 Apollo moon landing and got the idea to make a better braided sleeving for electrical wire.
Today, Techflex calls itself The Official Sleeving of Everything. In addition to braided sleeving, the company makes spark plug boot insulators, header wrap, and heat shrink tubing—learn more about them below.
Flexo F6 Self-Wrapping Braided Sleeving
Flexo F6 is ideal for wrapping wire or cable bundles quickly and easily. The self-wrapping braided sleeving is semi-rigid, so it simply closes around the entire bundle without the need for any additional tape, ties, etc. The sleeving has a lateral split that easily opens to fit around the wiring bundle; its 25% edge overlap lets you cover any inline plugs, connectors, and splices.
Flexo F6 will bend to a tight radius without distorting or splitting open, won’t affect the ability of the wiring or cable to flex, and can be opened to add or remove wiring without having to disassemble the entire bundle. It’s available in .24, .50, .75, 1, and 2 inch diameters in several lengths from four to 20 feet.
Insultherm Spark Plug Boot Insulators
Insultherm Spark Plug Boot Insulators protect ignition wires from high temperatures (up to 1,200 degrees F) right where they need it most—at the plug boot. Just slip the braided fiberglass insulators over any spark plug cable and boot and call the job done. They don’t have to clear hot surfaces; Techflex says the insulators can rest on hot header pipes without damage.
Techflex Insultherm insulators resist gasoline and chemicals, are non-conductive, and will not support combustion. They measure .75 inches in diameter and are available in black, red, blue, and natural.
Insultherm Header Wrap
Insultherm Header Wrap keeps exhaust gases contained in the header tubes for better performance and to keep the engine compartment cooler. It is made from textured fiberglass yarn that’s woven into a strong and flexible wrap, then covered with fire-resistant vermiculite mineral coating that can withstand temperatures up to 1,200 degrees F. Techflex recommends overlapping Insultherm Header Wrap by about a quarter-inch. That allows just enough heat to escape to prevent damage to the header tubes.
Insultherm Header Wrap is available in 10, 20, and 50 foot lengths in black or natural. We carry Techflex stainless steel ties to secure the wrap to the headers.
2:1 Fabric Shrinkflex Heat Shrink Tubing
Techflex’s 2:1 Fabric Shrinkflex Heat Shrink Tubing is a big step up from ordinary vinyl heat shrink tubing. The only shrinkable fabric of its kind, Shrinkflex is woven from polyolefin and polyester yarns. That makes it extremely flexible and highly resistant to water heat, and humidity. It also offers superior abrasion, chafing, and cut-through protection.
Shrinkflex shrinks to one-half its original size at 275 degrees F. It is easy to fit over connectors and splices, and can be used for rubber hose and plastic piping as well as electrical wiring. It is available in several diameters from .50 to 2.375 inches.
Summit Racing also carries Techflex thermal sleeving and wrap, Deutsch DT connector kits, and other sleeving products.
