Turn Your Ford 7.3L Godzilla into a Fire-Breather with Components from Edelbrock and COMP Cams

Putting out 435 horsepower and 475 lbs.-ft. of torque, Ford’s 7.3L Godzilla is pretty beastly right from the factory. But you can turn your Godzilla into a Tokyo-stomping fire-breather with components from Edelbrock and COMP Cams.

Edelbrock XTS Intake Manifold
Edelbrock says adding its XTS Intake Manifold, a FAST 102mm Throttle Body, and a COMP Cams Stage 3 camshaft will turn your Godzilla into a 637 horsepower beast. The XTS manifold has short, tapered runners tuned to boost power from 2,500 to 7,000 RPM. Other features include a horizontal throttle body mount for better air intake routing, billet aluminum flanges for better sealing, and vacuum takeoff ports at the rear of the manifold for cleaner plumbing.

If you want to run the factory or aftermarket 80mm throttle body with the XTS manifold, Summit Racing carries Edelbrock's Throttle Body Adapter that positions the throttle body at the stock ‘upward facing’ angle.

COMP Cams Godzilla Camshafts
COMP Cams makes three hydraulic roller camshafts for the Godzilla V8. The cams boost horsepower and torque and also improve drivability and throttle response.

Stage 1
Tested with a good tune, this cam added 60 horsepower and 15 lbs.-ft. more torque compared to the stock cam. It requires no adjustment to the factory cam phasing or ignition timing. Some ECU tuning may be required to get the most out of this cam.
Specifications
Duration @ .050" Lift: 217°/229°
Lift: .598"/.605"
Lobe Separation: 121°
Operating Range: 1,500-6,300 RPM

Stage 2
Developed to work with Edelbrock’s XTS intake manifold, this cam improves low- to midrange torque for heavy vehicles and towing—over 75 lbs.-ft. of it at 3,000 RPM. Testing with the required CCA-5473 Cam Phaser Limiter Kit resulted in a 75-plus horsepower gain over stock.
Specifications
Duration @ .050" Lift: 221°/231°
Lift: .598"/.607"
Lobe Separation: 112°
Operating Range: 1,800-6,500 RPM

Stage 3
This camshaft is designed for crate engines and engine swaps in lighter-weight cars and trucks. 600 horsepower on pump gas is achievable. Testing with the CCA-5473 Cam Phaser Limiter Kit added 100 horsepower and 25 lbs.-ft. of torque. The Phase Limiter Kit and a COMP Cams CCA-7230GCS-KIT Valve Spring Kit are required.
Specifications
Duration @ .050" Lift: 237°/250°
Lift: .671"/.671"
Lobe Separation: 117°
Operating Range: 2,500-6,700 RPM

COMP Cams Conical Valve Spring Kit
This kit features chromoly valve springs rated to .675-inch of valve lift. The springs’ wire diameter and progressive, pitch-driven design extends valvetrain RPM while reducing resonance dynamic spring oscillations. The result is longer spring life and the ability to handle aggressive camshafts. Chromoly steel retainers and stock-type valve seals are included.

COMP Cams Cam Phaser Limiter and Lockout Kits
The Cam Phaser Limiter Kit restricts the range of cam timing movement to provide the necessary valve clearance for serious performance cams with tighter lobe separations. The limiter notch ensures stock oil flow for the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system is not restricted. A disassembly tool is included. You’ll need COMP’s Cam Phaser Socket Tool to remove the stock camshaft phaser bolt.

The Cam Phaser Lockout Kit eliminates the Godzilla’s VVT feature by preventing the system from moving the camshaft installed centerline. That improves piston-to-valve clearance required for larger camshafts. An installation tool and phaser retaining bolt socket are included.
