Turn Your Second-Gen F-Body into a Handling Machine with a QA1 Suspension Kit

GM upped the handling ante with the second-generation Camaro and Firebird. Compared to the 1967-69 cars, the 1970-81 cars have a lower center of gravity and a wider track, better front suspension geometry, bigger front and rear sway bars, and improved steering. The wheel hop issues that plagued the first-gen F-Bodies were largely cured.

But time marches on, and so does performance. QA1’s Handling and Drag Racing Suspension Kits will turn your second-gen into a handling machine for tackling the curves and better control on the dragstrip.

Level 1 Handling Kit
This kit provides an excellent blend of handling and ride comfort. It includes Pro Coil front coilover shocks that provide up to two inches of ride height adjustment; Stocker Star rear shocks; a larger 1.375-inch hollow sway bar, and tie rod adjuster sleeves. The shocks have 18 settings so you can dial in the rebound rate for more aggressive handling, a more comfortable ride, or a happy compromise between them.

Level 2 and Level 3 Handling Kits
The kits offer 0 to 2 inches of front and 1.25 inches of rear ride height adjustability. The rear triangulated four-link offers clearance for up to 12-inch-wide wheels and 335 series tires with mini-tubs. Adjusting ride height, pinion angle, or wheelbase is as simple as a few tweaks–no link removal required. The front suspension is a complete bolt-in, while the four-link rear suspension requires a little welding.

Both Handling Kits include these components:
• Tubular front control arms
• Triangulated four-link rear suspension with adjustable trailing arms and crossmember
• 1.375-inch hollow front and .875-inch solid rear sway bars
• Bolt-on subframe connectors
• Coilover shock thrust bearings, tie rod adjustment sleeves, and adjustment wrench

The Level 2 Handling Kits feature 2.0 Street tubular front control arms with low-friction ball joints and bushings that provide increased positive caster; Pro Coil front coilovers with double-adjustable shocks and 450 lb.-in. coil springs; and Pro Coil rear coilovers with double-adjustable rear shocks and 170 lb.-in. coil springs.

The Level 3 Handling Kits feature 2.0 Pro-Touring tubular front control arms with one-inch longer upper ball joint studs to improve camber gain and overall cornering grip; Pro Coil front coilovers with MOD Series double-adjustable shocks and 450 lb.-in. coil springs; and MOD Series coilovers with double-adjustable shocks and 170 lb.-in. coil springs.

Level 2 and Level 3 Drag Racing Suspension Kits
QA1 Drag Racing Suspension Kits improve both straight line stability and 60-foot times, and have softer spring rates for better weight transfer. Both kits have these components:

• 2.0 Drag Racing tubular front control arms with adjustable droop stops on the upper arms for better front-end rise at launch
• Triangulated four-link rear suspension with adjustable trailing arms and crossmember
• .875-inch solid rear sway bar
• Bolt-on subframe connectors
• Tie rod adjustment sleeves and coilover adjustment wrench

The Level 2 kit comes with Pro Coil coilovers with double-adjustable coilover shocks, 350 lb.-in. front springs, and 170 lb.-in. rear springs. The Level 3 kit has MOD Series coilovers with double-adjustable coilover shocks, 300 lb.-in. front springs, and 170 lb.-in. rear springs.

Summit Racing also offers QA1’s rear four-link coilover conversion kits, subframe connectors, and rear sway bar separately.
