Use the Power of Science to Tow and Haul Safely with Curt's BetterWeigh

Towing or hauling heavy loads is no place for guesswork. Get the setup wrong and you are putting yourself and others in danger.

The proper way to set up a tow vehicle requires knowing things like trailer weight, tongue weight, and Gross Combined Weight (GCW)—the total weight of the vehicle, cargo, passengers, and trailer. Figuring all that out is a pain, which is why most people never bother to do the calculations.

But that’s no longer an issue thanks to the BetterWeigh Mobile Tow Scale from the towing experts at Curt. It uses the power of science to accurately measure weight and tell you if your vehicle is overloaded or weight is properly distributed for safe towing.

The BetterWeigh calculates these parameters:

Gross Combined Weight
BetterWeigh will display GCW within seconds of driving—no need to find a vehicle scale. Compare that measurement with your vehicle’s towing weight recommendations to determine if you’re safe or overloaded.

Tongue Weight
Proper tongue weight is key to safe towing and trailer sway avoidance. Tongue weight should be around 10-15% of Gross Trailer Weight (weight of trailer and cargo). BetterWeigh compares tongue weight to trailer weight to verify that the trailer is properly loaded.

Payload
BetterWeigh shows your vehicle’s weight with cargo in real time, making it easy to determine if you’re within the manufacturer’s payload recommendations.

Pin Weight
If you have a gooseneck or fifth-wheel trailer, pin weight should be roughly 20-25% of Gross Trailer Weight. BetterWeigh compares pin weight to trailer weight with the trailer connected to your vehicle. That measurement will help you position trailer cargo to insure it’s properly loaded.

Weight Distribution Hitch
A weight distribution hitch can affect trailer sway. BetterWeigh automatically measures weight distribution to let you know if your weight distribution hitch is correctly set up.

The BetterWeigh plugs into your vehicle’s OBD II system and runs on your Android or Apple device via a free app. It is designed for use on 1996 and newer vehicles with OBD II and an automatic transmission.
