Yukon Gear and Axle Dura Grip Positraction Differentials Now Available at Summit Racing

The limited slip differential GM put in its 1992 and up light duty pickups and SUVs is a decent unit. Referred to as the Gov-Lock, it’s basically a clutch-style posi unit with a mechanical governor. Once the Gov-Lock detects one wheel is spinning at a set speed, the governor kicks in, locking the differential and transferring power to both wheels.

The Gov-Lock works well on the street, but you might want to think twice about doing a lot of off-roading in a truck equipped with one. Stories of Gov-Lock cases splitting in half under hard use are not unheard of.

Yukon Gear and Axle heard those stories too, and came up with a better limited slip. The Dura Grip is based on the heavy-duty, clutch-style positraction differentials GM used in axles installed in big block muscle cars in the 1960s and early 1970s, but improved in most every way:

• Nodular cast iron cases with extra material in critical areas
• Larger bearing journals for increased case strength
• Stronger bearings with more rollers than stock
• Raybestos composite clutches that are more durable than OEM steel clutches
• Little to no clutch chatter
• Rebuildable

The Dura Grip differentials also feature stronger 8620 steel spider gears produced with Net Form Forging technology. The process makes gears that have at least 20% more impact resistance and fatigue strength than standard cut gears under heavy loading.

Yukon recommends using high grade, petroleum-based GL-5 gear oil and Yukon LSD (Limited Slip Differential) additive for long life and smooth operation. Be aware that using synthetic gear oil can cause aggressive or noisy operation.

Applications
• 1992-2013 GM 8.6” 10-bolt, 30-spline, 2.73-up gears
• 1992-2013 GM 9.5” 14-bolt, 33-spline
• 2014-18 GM 9.5”/9.76” 12-bolt, 33-spline, 3.42-up gears
