Anderson and Line Make Semifinals at Indy
Greg Anderson and Jason Line both reached the semifinal rounds at the Dodge NHRA Indy Nationals in Indianapolis.
Line was the Number One qualifier and set Low ET of the weekend with a 6.574 second pass. He also clocked Low ET of eliminations with a 6.607 second/208.01 pass as he defeated Robert River in Round One of eliminations. In Round Two, Line took the win against Chris McGaha, 6.632/208.01 to 6.654/207.66.
In the semifinal round against Troy Coughlin Jr., Line experienced massive tire shake. Coughlin Jr. took win with a 6.670/205.60 to Line’s 19.242/40.
“It was an unfortunate end to what was a very promising day,” said Line. “We’re looking forward to the next race for another chance to win the trophy for Ken Black and Summit Racing.”
Line is currently second in the Pro Stock points standings.
In Round One of eliminations, Greg Anderson defeated Kenny Delco 6.627/207.11 to 6.647/207.30. In Round Two, Anderson defeated Matt Hartford with a 6.649/207.66 pass to Hartford’s 6.691/207.34.
In the semifinals against Jeg Coughlin Jr., Anderson suffered a bout of human error resulting in a broken transmission. Coughlin Jr. got the win with a 6.739/205.72 to Anderson’s 8.494/113.86.
“I seemed to have broken the transmission on the burnout,” said Anderson. “I made a rookie mistake. I got it in the wrong gear at the wrong time and ripped the teeth right out of fourth gear. It was a heartbreaker. That would have been a good race.”
Anderson is currently fourth in the Pro Stock points standings, moving up four notches from eighth.
Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car, had a short day on Sunday. In Round One of eliminations, Wilkerson faced Ron Capps. Both drivers suffered tire spin, but it was Capps who took the win, 4.05/274.61 to Wilk’s 4.413/203.25.
“We were both spinning, his [tires] just spun a lot later than mine,” said Wilkerson. “We have such a good car, and then to have it not go down the track three runs in a row is disappointing.”
Wilkerson is currently seventh in the Funny Car points standings.
