Anderson and Line Ready for New Chapter in Pro Stock
One of the hottest topics in NHRA right now is the Pro Stock category and what fans can expect to see at the first race of the season. With a new rule that required a change from the traditional carbureted Pro Stock setup to NHRA-specified throttle body fuel injection, fans are eager to see how these drivers will handle the overhaul.
Going into the season-opening Circle K NHRA Winternationals this weekend at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, the Summit Racing Pro Stock team of Jason Line and Greg Anderson are confident and looking forward to a new chapter in Pro Stock.
“Every team has been quiet. They aren’t testing their race engines. We won’t know how competitive they are until the first round of qualifying at Pomona,” said Anderson.
The Summit Racing teams have tested their Chevrolet Camaros twice during the off-season. The first test session took place in Bradenton, FL in January. Anderson handled the driving while Line focused on tuning the engine. Changes made in the off-season also included the installation of a 10,500 rpm rev limiter, a front mounted air inlet and shorter wheelie bars.
“In Florida we only tested one car, so that gave us the foundation to get everything right on the other cars,” said Line. “This past week we tested in Phoenix and we were worked on changing small things in the engines. We worked on the cars until the very last minute, and just arrived in Pomona this morning.”
This past week was also Line’s first time behind the wheel of the Camaro. He is the Winternationals defending champion and has won this race four times.
“It certainly drives differently. I’ll admit it was a little overwhelming at first doing the burnout and taking off the starting line. I’m starting to finally get the hang of it,” said Line.
Anderson and Line agree they are ready for the challenge and are looking forward to starting the 2016 season.
“The Summit Chevy Camaros will definitely be in the hunt for the championship,” said Anderson.
Sixteen Pro Stockers are on the entry list for the Winternationals. The first qualifying session takes place on Friday 2/12 at 12:30 pm(PST).
The NHRA Winternationals also is the first race to be broadcast on FOX Sports 1. Friday qualifying coverage will air at 10:30 pm with an encore showing on Saturday at 1 am. LIVE coverage of eliminations takes place Sunday night starting at 5:00 pm (All times Eastern Standard Time).
