Anderson Back in Red Summit Racing Camaro in Las Vegas
The expression “change is good” has held true for the Summit Racing Pro Stock duo of Greg Anderson and Jason Line in the past. At this weekend's 13th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the pair that shares six NHRA Pro Stock championships is counting on history to repeat itself.
With just two events left to gain championship points, the timing of Jason Line's crash in testing two weeks ago was less than ideal. The resourceful KB Racing team quickly hatched a plan. Line, currently third in the Pro Stock standings and just 50 points back from first place, would drive Greg Anderson’s white Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro. Anderson would get behind the steering wheel of a very special car, the red Summit Racing Camaro he debuted at Englishtown in 2012. Anderson made history when he drove it to victory in Englishtown, earning the 100th win for KB Racing and the first Pro Stock win for a Camaro in over a decade.
"Most times when the KB Racing team has done a swap-a-roo it's worked out well for us," said Anderson. "We haven't run the Camaro since Phoenix earlier this year, but Buddy Perkinson has been driving the blue version of this same car lately and will do so again this weekend. The cars ran very well in testing and we've been able to learn a lot.”
"To be honest, this adds a certain level of excitement for us,” Anderson explained. “We think it's going to rejuvenate us, give us new life and renew our desire to show everyone that we aren't a one-trick pony team. We have grit and fortitude, and we believe that we can recover from this mishap and actually turn it into an opportunity."
The KB Racing group eagerly anticipates the twice-yearly events at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Team owners Ken and Judy Black are based in Las Vegas, and the Summit Racing team has won there with regularity. Anderson has earned more Las Vegas wins than any other driver in Pro Stock, earning seven trophies earned in nine final round appearances. He has also qualified Number One five times.
"I've always loved going to Vegas; it's probably the most exciting race on the tour," said Anderson, who is currently seventh in the Countdown to the Championship points standings. "At this time of year there is a lot on the line—and we are certainly up to the challenge."
