Anderson Makes Semifinal Round in Houston
Greg Anderson made it to the semifinal round at the Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals in Houston, Texas.
In Round One of eliminations, Anderson defeated Mason McGaha with a 6.542 second/210.44 pass to McGaha’s 6.574/209.88. In Round Two, Anderson took the win against Chris McGaha, Mason’s father, 6.550/209.82 to 6.637/208.01.
In the semifinal round, Jeg Coughlin, Jr. defeated Anderson with a 6.566/208.91 pass to Anderson’s 6.565/210.08—the margin of victory was only .002 seconds.
“These races are decided by thousandths of a second,” said Anderson. “My car has been great, but I spun the tires on this last run. We have to get the car and driver in sync again, and when that happens, were going to win a lot of races.”
Anderson moved up to fourth place in the Pro Stock points standings.
Jason Line faced Chris McGaha in Round One. Line didn’t cut the light he wanted, giving McGaha a holeshot win with a 6.590/209.88 pass to Line’s 6.552/209.85 run.
Line is 55 points out of first place, but still has a shot at winning the 2020 championship.
“There’s a chance we can take it all, but we’ll need a little good fortune,” said Line. “We didn’t help ourselves today, but there is definitely a chance. I want to win the championship—win it for Ken Black and for Summit Racing. It would be a nice going away present for sure.”
Line is currently tied with Jeg Coughlin Jr. for second place in the Pro Stock points standings.
Bo Butner’s day ended in Round One of eliminations when Kyle Koretsky took the win, 6.563/210.28 to 6.599/208.23.
“It was a disappointing weekend,” said Butner. “But we’re looking forward to Vegas.”
Butner remains 10th in the Pro Stock points standings.
Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car had a challenging weekend. Engine issues kept Wilk from getting a full pass down the track during qualifying rounds.
In Round One of eliminations against Alexis DeJoria, Wilkerson launched first, but the track surface got the better of him. DeJoria took the win, 3.874/330.39 to 5.426/132.70.
“Without good qualifying runs, we were pretty much behind the eight ball,” said Wilkerson. “We just didn’t have good data and didn’t realize how bumpy the track was. It’s been such a weird year for all of us, but we really want to finish strong at the final race.”
Wilkerson is seventh in the Funny Car points standings.
